First post, first time to India Feb/Mar
Hello all, India has long been on near the top of my most-wanted destinations, and I'm happy to say thanks that thanks to the Turkish Airlines deal (IAD -> MLE for $675) I'll be fulfilling my dream of going to India for most of March (after a brief stop over in Maldives).
My #1 item of things to do/see is Holi; I want to participate and take LOTS of photos with the maximum colored powder festivities.
I've got some research to do between now and then so hopefully these forums will be a valuable resource. I'm kind of winging it, and I'm going solo, so this should be a great adventure.

Hysul, welcome to India, and you are landing this place on the right time. To get the best photographs and know more about Holi, do visit north India, like Virndhavan or Mathura to experience the best.

First trip to India + first Holi = brave man 
I've had five Holi in Asia: one in Nepal, one in Dharamsala, three in Varanasi. All completely different experiences. But of those, Varanasi was my favorite. Anywhere you go, however, it will be . . . at least . . . colorful. Safe travels
