hello, found this great forum 3 weeks ago,have been reading here since. You guys are a fascinating group of people
 . Some of the stories/experiences shared here are AMAZING!!My school starts in March. If I want to see the world I have to do it now!! With now I mean in October.I have to stay at home for Ramadan as my mother wishes. Im kinda new to this (backpacking). I have 10 weeks to plan my whole trip. Planning to stay in India for 2 months. I have to convince my parents its a good thing. My father went to university in India 32 years a go. And is a little against a girl going alone to india. With against I mean he doesnt like it. Im still gonna go but would like to leave happy parents behind. Im a shy girl I stress myself out over little things Im sort of a control freak. I would like to change those things, learn some things there and come back as a better person. (sounds cliche I know  )Its time for me to go! Stop daydreaming about travelling to Asia and just do it and have fun!! I think I have said enough for now. Au revoir Blackdutchgirl(20 years old) |

Welcome to IM, blackDutchGirl - good luck with your trip planning and future travels. Don't be too hard on your parents! I can understand how they feel because I felt much the same when my daughter set off at the age of 20 for India - she had a travelling companion which made me slightly more relaxed I guess. Do you have a friend who could go with you?

Hi Bdg (sorry for the abbreviation - its just shorter and I'm lazy), and welcome to IndiaMike. Good on you for taking the plunge - sounds like you've already taken the first step in terms of broadening the mind!
 Keep reading through the various threads and when something grabs your interest or an itinerary starts to form - post a few questions. I'm sure the IM community will be more than happy to reply.happy travels

About your intended forthcoming India trip... You'll get a whole lotta advice from all sides...  Friends, neighbours, relatives, even long lost relatives, class mates, net friends, metro mates, colleagues, et all...  But remember one thing... Always come back to Indiamike for the final advice... hi thanks for the advice!
I have no one to go with. My friends have school. And I always do everything with them, this trip Im gonna make on my own. I do understand where (my) parents are coming from, But mine are overprotective |

Do you have already an idea of which places you'll want to go? And also, in general, if you didn't do it already, check a bit this thread - some good advises and tips in there for women travelling to India. Happy planning!

Hi there: Welcome. I would recommend a small little itsy bitsy trip to rural Turkey .. not Istanbul (as in it being close to your neck of the woods) before going to India for two months.

hello girl..i wish you well. the decision making process is the hardest part of getting away. i consider the gift of wanderlust to be a blessing. some people have no desire to leave the comfort zone and see other people and places, and in general there seems to be some social stigma on those of us that follow the heart. i am currently in the same position..trying to decide where to go and for how long. i just got my indian visa and am planning a mid-october flight to mumbai. haven't planned an itinerary, but would like to be in delhi by nov. 1. i was in india 10 years ago, but only stayed in an ashram outside of delhi for 3 weeks. i am anxious, nervous and excited about returning and seeing more of the country. whatever you decide, happy trails and good luck.
