Can I get an Indian passport?

Hi everybody!I was born in India and left there in 1948. I have a UK passport but wonder if I am eligible for an Indian one too. My latest book "Blind to Danger" is set in and around Hyderabad, and I need to check some basics.

India does not allow dual citizenship, so even if you are entitled to Indian citizenship (without which you could not get a passport) you'd have to give up your UK passport and citizenship. Probably not a good idea if you want to live in UK.

Look into the PIO and OCI schemes. You may fit into one of them.

anyway, for a short trip there is always the ...tourist visa.

As Nick said, India does not allow dual/multiple citizenships - but I am surprised that you have not considered OCI (Overseas Citizen of India). As a learned scholastic man, I would have hoped you were worldly-wise too. Since you do not seem to be one such, the best info source for you as a UK citizen is the High Commission of India website which gives you all the 'gnyaan' (knowledge) you require...
