Smile Babies in Goa!

I have been visiting my mother in Goa since 1995 for either a couple of weeks/months each year. She passed away a couple of years ago, leaving me her flat on the Mandovi River. Since then I have got married and 6 months ago became a Dad. My wife and I have decided we want to spend as much time with our son as possible so are planning on spending c.8 months in Goa from October. Finn will be 9 months by then and we would appreciate any helpful advise.

One thing I am aware of is Finn can't have some injections until he is 1yr old. Can we buy them in the UK and take them with us, storing them in the fridge on arrival. Or are they easy enough/good enough to buy out there?

All in all we are so excited and can't wait to get back out there.

why take injections from there.... better get a report from your doctor and when it is rite time for the baby to take the injections you can find a good doc in goa too for the same.

and if you think that you wont get the injections you are looking for.. once you get the details from the doc you can ask the same from any one of the fellow members ...

This is from someone traveling there, but it may offer some useful insights: http://www.indiamike.com/india/india...a-baby-t31533/

I heard you could get babies from being bitten by dog!

Seriously, you cannot travel with vaccines that need to be refrigerated and must make local arrangements.

I would stick to the bigger private hospitals, and their attached pharmacies, for this sort of thing. You cannot be sure that the smaller ones have adequate power backup, so you cannot be sure of the consistent temperatures of their fridges.

Same principle as only eating ice cream in busy places where it doesn't get to sit in their freezers long anyway.

Afterthought... I think this is true even if you are taking a large polystyrene box to your own home in India. My own fridge has had total melt-down a couple of times in the last few months

Thanks for all your advise. machadinha, I found your link very useful. Good to read someone's story that has done it all before.
Brishti- I have a cat in London, he is turning out to be one of my biggest concerns. What to do? with him whilst we are away?

Do Indian Airlines charge for infants?
What baby milk powders are available in Goa?
When will I get a full nights sleep?

Thanks

Most welcome. Another member here is known for his writings on traveling to India with kids, his own are quite a bit older though I think, won't be all that relevant to you.

Still, for further inspiration and other or future readers, here are the links:

Well, Nick, there's this little item, used by diabetics, called a Frio Wallet. It works on evaporation, so all we need is the wallet and some water ... it keeps insulin cool in the heat of Las Vegas, so will surely keep it cool in India.

For vaccines, well, I'm sure it depends on just what temperature they need to be held to have a useful life, but this is worth checking out.

Sounds very useful!

I think they give them away to Business-Class passengers

I don't know, and I guess that making them up with bottled water would be ok, although it might be a good idea to boil it first. The natural alernative would be much safer.

If you can get them all to leave home by the time they are, say, 20?

You will find baby milk powder manufactured by Nestle & Amul both are good.
All sorts of vaccinations are available and as Nick said go to a reputed private hospital.
