I've been married to a Kashmiri for so many years but still don't know even a word of kashmiri. Many people want to relocate to the US but here is a lady wanting to relocate to India. Welcome 2 India and wish you all the best, Kim.

You don't need to know Tamil to live in Chennai --- but I would find it hard to get through a lot of stuff without my Tamil wife on hand. Things like staff and house work would be very tough for me to handle by myself. Not that I didn't manage before marriage, but I had more access to English-speaking neighbours where I lived then.

Sammyjdm- I also have an Indian partner in Karnataka and am also trying to learn the language. I know I don't need to learn it to survive in India, but his family does not speak English and it would be nice to communicate with them.
Good luck with learning Kannada. Does anyone know if there are any good resources out there to learn the language? |

Not sure about Kannada but there's a Kashmiri online language course that utilizes RealAudio so you can hear the words being spoken. I kind of like it because the instructor speaks very slowly compared to everyday conversation. Listening to M talk to his family members on the phone, I can only recognize 1 word in 10!!!
We're hitting some snags in this effort to relocate - primarily passports for the boys. I was married twice before and my first ex disappeared off the face of the earth and hasn't been in contact with me or my now almost 14 year old in 13 years. Yet the State Dept insists I need his written/notarized consent to travel because we share legal custody! Initially when I first contacted the state dept they said just sign a "special circumstances" statement attached to the app and explain the situation, so I did. Now they want more. My options are - track him down, hope he'll sign it, or begin proceedings to terminate his parental rights since he's never utilized them anyway. The other ex is aware of the plans and against them even though he has very little contact with his son and doesn't pay support. Sheesh. Much later edited to add: LOCATED the ex! Amazing what a bit of fortitude and mad Googling skills and LOTS of determination and a couple of bucks dropped on a few different people finder websites can do. He's going to sign the document for me! Last edited by Ms Princess W : Mar 20th, 2008 at 09:03. |

Hi, It's now May, Princess, and I hope that everything is going great for you. My husband and I (he's from Punjab) have five children, three of which are ours, oldest two from previous.) I went through the hassle of securing the passport for the oldest two with their dad, who initially did not want to sign the passport papers (he thought I would somehow steal them away to India and he would never see them again.) Eventually, he did sign, though, and my two oldest will be leaving this year for school in India. They are excited, and I am really happy that they will get the opportunity to learn a second language and receive a great education. My kids have picked up a lot of Hindi just from my husband and watching the Bollywood movies. They also study it as a part of their homeschool studies. I would like to hear from you again, but otherwise, good luck in your travels!

![]() Sharms, so far so good....supposedly the other ex agreed and paperwork is on it's way to me. We'll see. Our departure for India is slated for Oct. 1....I'm so excited - this will be the longest summer EVER. But it'll fly by and I won't be ready, I just know it!!!! My fiance's kids from his first marriage want to go to India too - his 18 year old daughter is planning to go when we do, and study there as well ![]() |
