American Girl in India

Hello,
I wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I'm working here temporarily and missing home. Any other Americans out there?

I hope you had a good time in America. When away from your homeland it is always different and easy to miss the things you are accustomed to.

You didn't mention where you are staying. There is vibrant expat community in cities like Delhi, Mumbai & Bangalore.

Where in India are you American Girl? My kids and I run into Americans all the time while visiting India. Maybe it's the places you're hanging out?

I can imagine how hard it must be to be away from home and alone. Hope you enjoy your time in India!

I am in Chennai. Not much time for fun because I seem to work all the time. I still have a few weeks left of a 3 month work assignment here so yes I am already homesick. It has been a very good experience though.

Ok, thats different than a few weeks you mentioned in your profile. That's why I was shocked to think that your only there for 2 weeks and your already homesick. But being homesick and lonely are 2 different things. Maybe your just bored and lonely.

Do you plan to do any sightseeng of India when your assignment ends? Because theres lots of places where you can meet either Americans or Europeans or other travelers from across the globe.

And I know from this site that their are or were Americans staying in Chennai. Maybe theres an IM meetup soon in Chennai and you could possibly meet some. Or maybe it's possible to search this site for Americans living in Chennai and contact them for a night out on the town.

Hi American Girl. I will be leaving for my first trip to India on March 13th. I am coming over with friends and we will be staying with their family in Pune India. We will be there for just 3 weeks. During those 3 weeks we will be going to Bombay and Goa. I will also leave them for 7 days time to travel to northern India for the "Golden Triangle" tour. So how has your stomach adjusted? Have you felt safe being there alone? Any good info to share? Where is Chennai located?

Take some time out atleast for 4 days and visit Maha Kumbh Fair (Mela) at Haridwar. It is the spectacular religious fair, celebrated once in 12 years, where millions of people gather, even a lot of foreign tourists, some of them might be American as well. Having done this trip, you will be more closer to India. I hope so.....and you might have enough to explain India to your friends back home.

I agree with mohan_m, he has suggested you something extraordinary. It might prove to be a life time experience. Don't miss, if you can make it.This Maha Kumbh fair is suppose to end on 14 April 2010.
