A train will stop anywhere you want it to.
Oh great. If it's too late to make the connection we can just bed down and stick with plan A, but doing it clockwise means we can stock up in Dibrugarh before doing Ledo, which I guess isnt too well stocked up with 4 star hotels , and we get more chance of doing a bit of tippong as we'd be there in the morning and not have to dash off for this 07:15.

I went through most of the rest of the plan. The Saurashtra seems to be fairly stable, so hopefully no worries there. We've a night stop in Jammu, so the only thing we should be risking is a nice kip if it's daft late. The "east coast mainline" stuff also seems fairly reliable. I haven't checked the last bit but if things go pear shaped at that point it's not as bad as finding ourselves in the middle of the punjab with 10,000 km still to go and the whole plan in ribbons.
I'm going to have fun tracking these objects about the network over the next few weeks to see how consistent they are.

I just had a student in Guwahati claim that we'll need "serious politcal connections in either in Assam or the Railway Ministry" to pull that off.
One of these once a weekers like the Lohit which doesnt seem to care what part of the country it is in on any particular day maybe, but these Rajdhanis seem to be pretty good at timekeeping. Are you sure about this claim ?. The same guy also reckons it can take anything from 2 to 5 hours to get back from the south side of the river at Guwahati the 50 klicks or so back to Rangiya, which is making my cunning plan look increasingly suspect.
I still would like to think we could pull it off, but it looks like it will take more organisation than just bunging 10 quid at the guard. Getting off at Guwahati and gambling we can get back over that bridge and back to Rangiya looks like a bad bet. Why it doesnt stop at Rangiya when it's such a convenient fit for the Arunchal beats me.

Ah ha, maybe we think differently, when I say a train will stop anywhere, I was referring to a little emergency cord.

There is a rule about requesting a stop for a train, but I've not read it for a few years, I seem to remember the number 10, maybe if 10 people wish to get off, but I don't know if this would apply to a Rajdhani, and I don't know if the Rajdhani needs to slow down to pass through Rangiya Jn station.

Have you got a link to your thread on IRFCA?

This thread should be in the Indian Railways forum, maybe a mod could move it.
