Advise on travelling on Holi
Hi all, going to India for the first time in a few days. CAN'T WAIT.
I'm traveling from Gujarat to Mumbai then Mumbai to Goa on the same day. The only thing is we are traveling on the 9th which is Holi and i don't know if the trains will be running/ if it is a national holiday??
I've heard that Holi can be a bit dangerous for girls is this true / not so much as i would love to celebrate & participate with the public...
Also I was hoping to buy my ticket to Goa out there in Mumbai too, but not too sure how popular this season is with the locals & whether i should buy my tickets before i go???
Please help...
Thank you so much for reading..

Bad news: waiting lists for trains open 3 months in advance, so you would have to be very lucky to be able to buy tickets so close to the date of travel. Check out other threads on IM related to train travel and bookings.
Regarding Holi, it is on 8th March this year, so hopefully 'celebrations' should be over by the time you get here. In some parts of India, it can be dangerous for women (and everybody else) to go out during Holi, but I do not think it is too bad around Gujarat and Mumbai.
