Speaking of oldies acting young and silly - Brisso - do you like live music? I see you're into QOTSA - if you like them and especially if you like Rage against the machine check out this band http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endid=73868067
they're playing in BrisVegas on the 13th - I saw them on Sunday and they are amazing live - young, full of energy and anger, musically great - I almost ended up in the mosh pit, now that WOULD have been undignified!

So you see wwww - I celebrated my 46th birthday rocking out to a hard core live band and loved it - Bring on India I say!

Way off-topic - thanks for the tip Kristin - I love 3 piece power bands in particular - favourite ever was the Cult ...

When do you and the family leave? Christmas eve for me ...

Must admit I'm glad to find some aging punk rockers here... Keep it up guys 'n' gals

LOL the mosh pit, yeh. Hey, we might meet each other there some day. But I'll admit to sooner keeping some respectful distance these days. Hey, let the youngsters do their thing, right

Part of me wanted to throw myself in and the sensible part stopped myself - it was pretty full on in there - this band is known for their crazy moshpits and stage diving.... but there was a minute there where I just wanted to lose myself in a load of other thrashing people, just to feel it again.... some things you just can't relive I guess. I would have ended up in hospital... I did used to be an enthusiastic mosher though...mind you, I was usually primed in other ways too - and these days I have no chemical assistance - which just shows that good live music stands alone.

Oh well, one day when I couldn't get any I found that the adrenalin comes with the dancing itself, you don't need anything more to get into a trance.

It's all in the mind, you know. There's nothing to be tapped there that isn't already there (that sounds a lot easier than it is. It's true though. Some eastern techniques would corroborate this, to stay remotely on-topic.)

(And yes, it is of course a losing oneself/maintaining one's composure thing. I often think I was wiser in that sense when I was younger. Less afraid to let go, without fear of the consequences.

Disclaimer: This is an unwise path, as those oriental traditions hold too. Don't do as I do, kind of thing. You may well and truly screw up along the way. And unlike some fluffier traditions, some of these would hold that once you screw up, you can start all over again. There is no atonement to them in that sense.)

--> Kristin, you're the first to have gotten me talking about this here at all. Funny. Exceptional.

This thread should be stickied. I love it. Thanks all for the laughs.

I did my share of moshing back in the day. Sometimes it feels like another life.

Couldn't agree more - you're only tapping into what's already inside you, which isn't to say it isn't a load of fun experimenting & learning that - if (disclaimer here too) you can manage to steer a safe path, which fortunately I did!. But to get back to the topic (sort of) there are definitely benefits to going to somewhere like India when you're past those silly days of throwing yourself willy nilly into any new adventure or mind enhancement opportunity or relationship that comes your way... I daresay had I gone when I was 20 I might never have returned!

If you like mosh pits you should visit a "kambala" or a "kumbal", Or better still offer to participate in it (just to bring this on topic)

See
http://www.locateindia.com/karnataka...festivals.html

Brief excerpt
Kambala (Buffalo Race): When the fields are flush with water, buffaloes race down a slushy track, egged on by a strong-muscled farmer who surfs his way down the track behind the beasts while balancing precariously on a trailing wooden plank.

I actually saw an example on "Amazing Race" - have not seen it live

Also covered in the Michael Palin series "Himalaya" - where the distinguished guests almost get mown down ...

Sounds like Pamplona only without the drunken Aussies and Kiwis! And somewhere where a metaphorical deflowering might take place
