Children rnge from 8 yo, 3 1/2 yo, 8 month baby Reason to go to Munger.. is that is where the Satyananda Yoga Ashram is located and we have connections here in Sydney with a Satyananda Ashram I have traveled a lot growing up to different places on the Globe, and to other Asian countries (not India) but China, Malaysia, Hong Kong etc... My husband has not we would like to keep a frugal budget as after India we continue onto Dubai for work and we plan to spend 3 months in India Interests.. we are vegetarian and interested in yoga All that we tell, says we are crazy to take children to India.. a big no no... so it's great to find this site, with people that have done so ![]() What is the climate like in north india late January to early April? If you want general info, a guidebook is best, but if you want real good personalised advice, you need to give a lot more detail.
You've got kids, so you know that at different ages they do different things, they understand dangers better as they get older, they know better how to protect themselves from the sun, and they stop putting their hands in their mouths when they get to about 13, so please mention their ages, it really is important. Why Munger? Have you got travel experience? What budget? What interests? Indiamike can be such a great website for travel advice, but we require information. By the way, India is an awesome place to take children, it will open their eyes and their minds, and they'll have a great time. I took a 7 month old baby, and she loved it, I also meet many families travelling around, and they always seem to be enjoying themselves. The following article is very good. http://www.indiamike.com/india-artic...dia-with-kids/ |

Why leave the children behind? Unfair. Theft, pick-pockets are a problem as everywhere else. Munger (Monghyr), your ancestral place?

Mini freak outs
I have been having mini freak outs thinking about all the risks involved..
. but overcoming them, knowing we are sensible parents.. and have our kids best interests as a priority.. I think this will be a wonderful opportunity to be exposed to another way of life.... My 7 yo will get the most out of it Im sure and it will teach them to appreciate our lives in western countries and hopefully bring balance to a culture of materialistic gain..Anyhow. I will be breastfeeding our baby.. so Im not so concerned about dehydration with him.. (i have to look after me..) Australia is also a hot country and we do spend a lot of time ruffing it in the bush here.. so we are accustomed to heat and sun protection.. baby will probably be crawling by them, so keeping him in my carrier will keep him from eating anything... Our 3 yo I suppose concerns me the most.. Lucky for daddy's shoulders And our 7 yo easily understands and can use her commonsense of the risks we explain to her.. She will be missing out on school in Oz.. but I plan to keep up the reading and writing with her and I have been reading about the concept of "Unschooling".. Life is her education and she leads us with her enthusiasm and love of learning We plan to minimise our luggage we take with us as we have our hands full already.. Im on the look out for a good duffle bag with wheels.. And backpack for our valuables.. I do have a rugged 3 wheel stroller but am hesitant to take it as it's more luggage and we may get lax and leave things on that could get pinched. We are first timers but hey it's now or never.. having children doesn't stop your life from growing and experiencing all that it has to offer... more the opposite I'd say.. being a parent is all about growth... Illness seems to be an issue that everybody warns against.. and we ill do what we can. (we seem to get stomach bugs, and flus here in Australia too) so I trust that we will get through it.. India doesn't seem to be a place wrapped up in cotton wool.. but is that not why us "westerners" get attracted to it.. if we are not careful we may learn something? ![]() |

I am also having some of these thoughts.
I am taking three of my daughters (ages 8, 13, and 15) with me to the golden triangle area in late Feb staying till the day after Holi in March. I was feeling pretty calm about it, but of late I've read online and in some guidebooks some rather disturbing reports of women being really treated rudely there when traveling alone. My 2 teen daughters are both beautiful blondes...I'm just a middle aged fat redhead but still LOL....been a bit worried about that aspect of our trip now....not really been too worried about my 8 year old...I read Hans article, it was helpful. ANYWAY...I was following this thread for info too...so thanks for starting it. Blessings Ginger |

Also read our 1997 journal about how Mirjam dealt with "eve-teasers".
