A brief introduction

Hello there.

I'm a Belgian medical student heading for India in July (and returning at the end of August) together with a friend. We're not the greatest of planners and if we plan something, we often change it, but our 'roadbook' looks like this:
Delhi - Jaipur - Jodhpur - Jaisalmer - Agra - Varanasi - Ranchi (visiting an orphanage run by Belgians) - Calcutta (I know it might not be the wise thing to do during monsoon, but I'm determined to see Calcutta) - Orissa - Andhra Pradesh - Tamil Nadu (leaving from Chennai).

Although first-timers to India, we do have some travel as well as backpacking experience (Me: Québec, US East Coast, El Camino de Santiago, most West-European countries, Bulgaria, Turkey, ... ; my friend: Peru, Thailand, Western Europe, ...).

Our mother tongue is Dutch (we live in the Flemish part of Belgium), but we can make ourselves understood in both English and French. I've also got a notion of Spanish and German.

I'm fascinated by many aspects of India (I'll 'blame' my father and his stories about his Indian experiences in the seventies for that), have been reading this forum for the last few weeks and decided to join in now.

Well, that's about it.

Greets,

R.T.

Pleased to see that you're following in your fathers footsteps.

Your dad wouldn't be an IMer already, by any chance?

Welcome. Enjoy IM; Enjoy India

Unfortunately, my dad's not an IM'er, Nick-H.

@seventies' hippy:
My father was a bit of a globetrotter at the time (in fact, he's still fond of travelling). A little while after he came back from India (and my mother came back from her study year abroad in Algeria), my parents left for Johannesburg to settle there, but as they detested the Apartheid regime and the general atmosphere in Jo'burg, they decided to return to the home country temporarily in expectation of a new opportunity to leave Belgium,...

...but then I came along and spoiled things.

So my parents settled down, but they're still determined to go and live (and perhaps work) abroad (they're both doctors, it's the family business apparently) once the kids (me and my brother who's still at high school) are totally self-dependent. Nowadays, my dad's is particularly fascinated by China (and Taiwan) since he spent six months in Shanghai, then travelled around the country for a while and came back on another occasion to visit Taiwan. So who knows, they might end up in the Far East.

Well, I'm aware of the fact, that the ride will be be bumpy, but as to how bumpy it will be exactly, I'll only know once we hit Indian soil, I guess.
