21 Year old Irish student thinking about a move to India - Lots of Questions??
Doin the Last year of my Hotel Management degree and I am contemplating a move to India next year to work in a hotel.
I am curious to know which city would be the most fun and suitable for a young student. I love travel and new culture and i would hope to do a bit of travel while i am over there. If anybody has any ideas for me it would be great. |

Alright India is huge and varied, and running the risk of offending Delhi-ites, Kolkatians (?), and others I'd say being young and fun-loving choose Mumbai (Bombay) or Bangalore depending on the size of the city you're interested in.
Just have a look at the threads devoted to them (and to other cities) on the forum and you'll get some idea already. Welcome to the forum! |

Hi Dear,
India is still not a very good choice to start your career, HM stream sucks, the salaries are too less..exploitation is common Well you have variuos option to move with in Service industry, you will find bangalore & delhi full of Service managment people working in IT industry, service background works well in BPO. bangalore living is expensive and city is dead during nights, though lots of young people to hang out with,Delhi living is good but very less options in Hotels sepcially,, but yes Next years would be great oppertunity due to upcoming commenwealthgames.. You might want to check out more details on this point. Mumbai is good but overcrowd with congested life.. Goa is good but you will have a lot of competions/ Pune can be a good option these days.. Cheers!!

You might be able to find a hotel which is prepared to take on the idea of expanding its Irish customer base, in which case they could reason that you are needed as you are a cultural specialist and / or Gaelic speaker. If you want to travel, it might be worth your visiting India first on a tourist visa before applying for Indian jobs back in Ireland (you cannot get an employment visa if you are in India) as the hospitality industry worldwide is not known for generous holiday allowances. |

Actually the international hotel trade is one way to get to work in India. We had a member here last year who was in Delhi because his girlfriend worked for an international hotel chain and was posted there (this is my memory of what he told me. It's possible I'm remembering wrongly). His username was AlsPants and he posted a thread called something like "First time in Delhi, the shock, what not to do".
He's not around now, but resurrecting his thread might prompt a return for more information.

21 Year old Irish student thinking about a move to Mumbai - Lots of Questions??
Hello
I am in the last year of my hotel management degree and i am contemplating a move to Mumbai for a year when I am finished. India has always interested me but I am bit confused as to where the best place to go. I dont need info any on visas as my college assured me there would be no problem. I enjoy going out and socialising but what I really want to know is India or Mumbai the right place for me????????? |

Moving to Mumbai
Hi- well I've been living here since June and its a brilliant place, not for everyone but for me it has been the ost interesting time of my life. My boyfriend and I had the same reservations and it is very different to London!!! but it's great. It's not been without challenges, that's for sure, but the people here help you all the way. I will be happy to give you some advice- I can email you and I'll send you all the info I have in the next week or so.
Good luck! |

J_Igoe, this post is almost the same as your intro post. As we don't allow muliple posts of the same thing, I'm going to merge your threads together.
I'm sure you'll get some more useful answers like Sophie's. |

hi mate welcome to india.Chennai (my home town) is one of metropolis and has got a lot of five star hotels but its not a fun place and you get baked here (lol) as we have three seasons here - hot ,hotter ,hottest .i would recommend bangalore ,the weather is good ,lot of good hotels ,lots of pubs, many ways of entertaining yourselves .i think its the best place or you can choose Goa.some where in IndiaMike i read in a thread about guy who could recommend ppl to a hotel in goa.Goa is certainly the entertainment capital.sandy beaches and touristy spot .great place to have fun.

Chennai is probably not a real-fun place for youngsters, but for boring old farts like me it is just great!
