Which is best deal to buy tickets to Hyderabad from NJ

Hi I am planning to go to india this september. MY stay there is for may be 6months plus. So I do not have a fixed return date. When I spoke to travel agents they say open ticket option isn't there for travel from US to india. Could anybody help me out which is best for me to buy a oneway or rountrip( for that I may need to change the date if I not able to make it on that day by paying a penalty). I am travelling with my 3 year old. Please let me know good deals if you know any to travel to Hyd.

just a thought... you may want to consider buying a return ticket, just picking whatever date for your return and then changing it in india, once you've settled on when you'd like to go home.

most (or all!?) airlines will charge for changing your return date, but it still may work out cheaper than buying 2 singles...

i did this (flying emirates from london to hyderabad, via dubai) and was able to change my return date for a fee (GBP50 or so).

if you do this, make sure you get a ticket with sufficient validity - mine was valid for 1 year, i.e. whatever return date i chose had to be within one year of the outbound journey.
