varanasi delhi flight
Hi, I have a flight from Varanasi to Delhi and then back to Spain.Do I arrive at the same airport in Delhi or is the domestic flight at another airport? If so, how far? Does the luggage travel checked in from Varanasi to Spain? Lufthansa told me so but I am confused as a friend who travels to India quite often told me that you have to check in again at Delhi and that the domestic flights are far away from the international airport is that true?
thanks for your help lotus |

yes
the domestic and the international airports in Delhi are 2 different ones but not that far away{but really do not remember how far
} so you'll have to do 2 separate check ins for your luggage

Thanks Pantelis for answering. One more question:How do I get from the domestic airport to the international one? Is there a special train or do I have to take a cab?

Hm. Try http://www.airportsindia.org.in/igi/...facilities.jsp (open during business hours, and scroll around there; it seems to currently have a glitch); http://www.newdelhiairport.in/ (new site I think, checking before I didn't find it all that great); and http://www.toandfromtheairport.com/delhi.html .

Domestic and International Airports are only 5 kms (3 miles)apart. There are free shuttle buses between the two (every hour during daytime, at night more often). For inquiry there are booths inside, after baggage claim and customs. Baggage must be claimed, no other option.

It is a matter of definition. They have changed the designation, recently. The two airports are physically one area, at either end of which is what they now call Terminals. Terminal 1 used to be called Domestic Airport, Terminal 2 International. Now both terminals are designated to be on Intl.
It is the same with every other city in India with an international airport. They do not consider the domestic airports seperate anymore. |

Thru checkings are possible. Enquire at Varanasi airport.

Normally if through checkins are possible, you will have to do the immigration and customs check both at Varanasi, and be a transit passenger in Delhi.
Maybe it is possible, but I have not heard of thru checkins in any other way in India. |

Capt I may be wrong. I was told by some one that the luggage after X-Ray is checked in and directly transferred to the international flight. Only the passenger has to go thru immigration check at the international departure.
Aadil may have the correct info. |

Interline
I was under the impression that apart from the ability of the airport to to the international screening of luggage, and interline agreement is needed between the two airlines in question...
I may be mistaken ... |
