Transitting between Domestic and International departures
We are due to arrive at Delhi Domestic Airport from Goa and will need to transfer to Delhi International. We will have 7 hours between our flights. I understand that we can only check into International Departures 3 hours before our flight. We donīt want to leave the airport area, so where would be the best place to wait the 4 hours before we check-in? Are there any lounges that we can use before we check/in?

I haven't flown out of Delhi in ages, but even years ago it was fairly comfortable. I'm sure there are all sorts of amenities now. Last time I flew out of Mumbai, there were internet cafes and places selling snacks. We managed to while away a few hours very nicely there before our flight. There were lots of other services, too, for those who wanted to spend a lot of money. We didn't, being nearly broke.
India has been investing heavily in its major airports in recent years, so be hopeful. You might also look online to see if you can find out what the amenities are. |

My last experience was in early December - when security was very, very tight - so maybe there's some change since.
On arrival at the airport our e-tickets were checked by a functionary who directed us to the door closest to our check-in. There we had our passports and tickets scrutinised by an armed CSIF soldier and were allowed to enter the terminal. The pre check in Hall had some facilities, but not anything in which you'd want to spend up to 4 hours!! There are lounges in the after check-in and Immigration area, before the main security checkpoints. Then beyond the main security checkpoints there are shops and some facilities. There was still work going on in December - so maybe it's already different. Take a good book (or two)! |

I'd say stay on the outside of security for as long as you can. Once you're in there, you're stuck with whatever you find. In Mumbai, the internet cafe, etc., were situated inside check-in, I believe, but before the security checkpoint. And that means you'll want to keep an eye on your stuff so it doesn't walk away.

If you arrive too early at Delhi International there's a lounge across the road where you can wait. It's fairly basic. DO NOT pay Rs30 to go in. You don't have to pay if you have an onward ticket, only if you're without a ticket and there keeping someone company.
