the cheapest flight London - Delhi/Mumbai

Yesterday I booked the cheapest flight from London to India for my Dad.

Flying in January for 3 weeks. Out of London to Bombay and return from Delhi. Travelling on KLM.

All for £210 return including taxes!

At the same time I got a return to Chicago from London for me for £150/return.

On KLM! I was expecting to see Finnair, which gave me a great deal for 400 euros return Amsterdam-Bombay, and shocked to read KLM. They are usually sooo overpriced. Where did you find this offer? On their own website? Or some other?

i bought using australian expedia: www.expedia.com.au even though I'm in the UK.

The deal was only around for a short time although you can still get a good price, £340 for 3 weeks in Jan 09, on KLM using www.orbitz.com (US website allowing non-US bookings).

That's an amazing fare, I'd have bought it straight away.

Just looked in the small print, your Dad's expected to pedal if the captain gets tired.

Having only found high fares for travel early next year I was ready to take advantage of the British Airways sale and travel Premium Economy EDI-LHR-MAA out , AND DEL-LHR-EDI back for £757.

However today I found I could do the same route in ordinary economy (cattle class!) on Air France for £380 !! (£495 on BA)

It's possible to travel on Air France to India from the UK from £364 return. You can book on their website and have a useful 7 day spread to choose the cheapest fares if your dates are flexible.

This could be better - I went to Delhi on BA in January - and they lost my luggage.......

I done a very quick search about 5 days ago just to get an idea of likely fares, I checked London-Delhi, departing 18/11 returning about 15/05/09, I found £400 on a couple of sites.

I then checked London-Mumbai for the same dates and found £350 for BA direct, I'm sure I was checking on last minute .com

I wonder, do we have a thread to inform members of any great flight deals? (if not, we should have)

Hi there,

I'm new here, but I just found London-Mumbai in June 09 return in August for 348pd. I think that's good.

Both Virgin and British Airways have sales on at the moment so it's a good time to book.
Another way of finding which airlines have cheap fares is to use consolidators like
http://airline-network.co.uk/
and use the info there to go to the airline's own website and save on the agents mark-up.
Also e-bookers often sells BA fares at sales prices after the sale has finished.
There's a bit of a recession at the moment so airlines are scrambling to offer the best fares to secure custom.
Expect much higher fares next year after the competition has been wiped out.

Christmas though New Year is peak season. Dec 14th through Jan 28 is considered peak for travel to-fro India from the US, and possibly elsewhere in Europe....

Proof that the timing of making an international flight booking is all important.

7 hours ago I booked a flight Edinburgh-Amsterdam-Delhi in Feb 09 , return Chennai-Paris-Edinburgh in April for £391.

The same flights on the same airlines are now priced at £620- a handy saving of £229 (Rs19236)!!-which will keep me in masala dosas for a few days....
