The info. taken when a ticket is bought, will be shared among police, customs, immigration and security services for at least 24 hrs. BEFORE a journey is due to take place.

Anybody about whom the authorities are dubious can be turned away when they arrive at the airport or station with their baggage.

Aren't these the points to be reported by the airline to the governments, to comply with U.S. anti-terrorist regulations?

I do not think a person has to answer them personally, the system does it for them. Even though it seems to me there are more points here than the E.U. would require.

Of course you might get shot by a policeman while travelling to Heathrow on the underground, then you won't need to worry about any of this.

UK is in a bad way, and it is largely because it fell in with friends who were a bad influence.

Nobody can shoot you unless you answer the 53 questions

They should have kept 52, 1 for each card in a pack... but maybe the 53rd one is the joker.

Ontopic, I was asked, seriously, at Gatwick how many wives and how many children I had (while the lady held my passport close to her nose to ensure I wasn't cheating)

... I thought that only worked with pesky teenagers on Indian trains Capt., where to keep them off your backs and much to their impressed astonishment you may want to declare that any and no matter how many women traveling with you are naturally your wives.

<dries eyes> Blurdy L, note to my fellow Westerners: We shall henceforth cease from passing judgement on any nationalities unbeknownst to us.

That was a joke. She asked me how many children I had, and was not amused when I gave her the right answer (besides telling her I had one wife)

The lady was sure I was going to be a security threat while in transit from Gatwick to Heathrow

Unhappy Bang! Bang! your dead!

Nick
I used to tell a joke (quite proudly) about our police in the UK;

A policeman in New York sees a bank robber running off..he draws his gun and Shoots.. Bang! Bang! he's dead. He then shouts STOP!

In L.A. the bank robber is running off. The policeman shouts Stop! or I'll shoot..Bang! Bang! he's dead.

In Britian the bank robber is running off. The policeman shouts STOP! or I'll shout STOP AGAIN!

Sadly, the joke is no longer relavent.

Nah, long flight from the Caribbean and long flight to take to Bombay. I was in no condition to be anything.

Btw, this question I like. (no. 31)

Nick, Canada seems to be going the same way, the fear merchants have been very busy.

This happened at Vancouver airport recently..http://www.mytelus.com/ncp_news/article.en.do?pn=canada&articl eID=2800824
Very disturbing!

You really do have that ex-pat bitterness about your home country, don't you, Nick?

As has been said, all this information will be passed on by the airline or travel agent on your behalf. They are not questions you will have to answer at the airport.

The British way of life is changing, and a lot less is taken for granted these days than it used to be, but that is due to the fact that there is a large number of people both outside and inside our borders who want only to kill us. Unfortunately, this is the price we pay.

I think I found the joker in the pack:

Although some of the others also look like jokers to me.

Not at all... I would love to be able to afford a home in both places, or even to be able to visit once or twice a year.

But I am horrified at the madness, and the absolute lack of any responsible accountability there. The head of the Met is not going to resign because only one guy got shot. It means it wasn't an endemic failure in the system, you see...

And a guy in a diabetic coma was tasered in UK a couple of years back: he was unconcious on a bus. In a diabetic coma, as it happened. He's just gone public because --- you guessed it, nobody is to be prosecuted, disciplinary action is still being considered, blah blah. After two years.

Its not a safe place any more, and the threat is from the establishment itself.

Sure, I did want to escape some of the current British crap.

But, of course, I hadn't read as many Indian newspapers in those days
