When talking about flights, the term surcharge is usually applied to the additional fuel costs which can be levied by an airline. These vary by airline and length of flight and are subject to regular changes.

Are you wondering about some form of tax perhaps?

I am sure there are some people they'd pay to get rid of! Joking apart, if there is a charge I'm not aware of it, but if it's bundled in with the flight taxes I might not have spotted it.

Chances are someone will know the answer to this, but if all else fails, you could try pricing up a flight, just up to the point where you get the breakdown of costs, that should give you this info - obviously stopping before actually paying for it!

First time I visited India, I had to pay departure tax. Don't remember how much, think it was 1000 Rs or so.
These days departure taxes are included in the price of your flight ticket.

Don't worry about it, all the taxes are paid when you book the ticket, if you went back over the details it would be in there somewhere.

I will however be billing you Rs 1000 for my reassuring advice.

Couple of years ago leaving India from Kerala (Ernakulam ?) we were asked to pay Rs 500.00 each. When I tried to say all taxes were included, I was told this was an "airport fee", and we had no option but to pay.

It says somewhere on the Bangalore Airport webpages that there is a development fee that is charged to international departures... and it seems to imply this isn't included in the tickets we buy.
