Your hand luggage is restricted according to the size of the case.

You must check out with your airline (website) what you are entitled to carry on, and what size.

The number of items you can carry is strictly enforced, because it is enforced, not only by the airline, but by the airport security checking.

If you fold your suit carefully, using tissue paper to pad it out, and do not crush it in your bag it will survive remarkably well.

Frequent business travellers can probably give even better hints...

I would pack the suit in those zip up thingys you get for those, carry it and tell anybody who stops me that it's my wedding suit.

Hope not a very large one.

I have seen people carrying suits often like this.

Business travellers flying business class need not apply

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage.

You could have found this on the Luftahnsa site:

Pieces of carry-on baggageIn First and Business Class you may take two pieces of hand baggage on board (except for flights departing the UK). Please stow one of the pieces under the seat in front of you. Economy Class passengers are only permitted one piece of hand baggage. Please check for country-specific differences.

Size and weight of carry-on baggage

Each piece of hand baggage may not be larger than 55 x 40 x 20 cm and may not weigh more than 8 kg. An exception are foldable garment bags. They count as hand baggage up to a size of 57 x 54 x 15 cm.

Pieces of baggage exceeding these limits have to be checked in. As the stowage space in the cabin is limited we will transport them in the cargo hold. This is in the interests of your own and other passengers' safety and comfort.

Note that unless you're flying business, the UK rule doesn't help, as it only applies on the UK-germany leg.

Where it is restricted by security regulations to one. .

Not that I've ever flown in those classes, but I have used BA's "Economy Plus", class, which is economy with bigger seats. It also has a two-checked-in-cases allowance, rather than one, and used to have a two-carry-on-bags allowance.

Until, for our own safety...

Since 010808 you are allowed to take two bags onboard in business and first again. I flew in both , got an upgrade to First once, but bussiness on BA is fine enough.

Siri, its advised to pack your suit in suitcase. The size of hand luggage allowance is fairly small. As per posts please check with your airlines before you take two hand luggage on board. My parents just flew to India a week ago, and although BA started to allows two pieces of hand luggages, one piece of hand luggage is a laptop size case. So its highly advisable to check with your airlines before you pack.

This is a quote from BA. "One bag no bigger than 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm (22 inches x 17.5 inches x 9.85 inches) (including wheels, pockets and handles) - In addition, one briefcase or laptop sized bag"

Of course, another option is to wear the suit - and hang the jacket in the flight.

And yes, get it drycleaned in India, too.

That last comment brought back evil memories of my return journey to the states after my first research trip in India. I carried 3 suitcases of books and feild notes, a carry-on, a purse like carry-on for heavy books, wore 2 coats (from Mumbai), and stuffed the pockets with heavy items like batteries. A kindly attendant at Swissair saw the problem of the 3rd suitcase and checked it in for me separate from the others. My dad insisted on weighing the accumulation and it came in at 220 pounds. I agree with the Capn., wear it..

I was going to suggest that --- but there is always the possibility of dinner (yours or someone else's) ending up all over it.

Pressing is quickly and easily done --- but make sure they know to put a damp towel and not ruin the fabric by making it shiny. Dry cleaning seems to take days, and I usually get stuff back dirtier than I gave it. So far I am very disappointed with dry cleaners in Chennai. Bangalore may be better

Not all, very few are good. Maybe we should start a thread on good dry cleaners in Bangalore.
