So if the OP has through-tickets where she would just normally be transferring between planes and staying air-side at LHR, she can get through immigration regardless? Pleading ignorance here!

If transferring between planes, no need to get through immigration, at all. (One needs to go through immigration, if visiting London for sightseeing.) Did I answer your question?

It is of course their own responsibility to leave enough time to return to the airport and board their second flight.

This may be off topic but I really appreciate it, if anyone could tell me how is the flight from Delhi to Chicago with American Airlines and flight from Newyork to Brussels with American Airlines? Anyone traveled on this sector with AA?
Thank you, |

Davef22,
I considered the American Air flight but opted for British Airways instead. I like the fact that there is a stop in London. This helps to break up the long journey. Although I am much closer to Detroit I opted for the flight out of Chicago because it saved me about $800. I'm getting excited about the trip. Just 2 weeks to go! Michelle |

Hello Guys,
I am also flying by BA from Houston and arriving on a tuesday morning at 0730AM. Our departure is at 945PM the same day. That gives us 12 Hours to explore London. I am thinking of taking the tube from terminal 5 at Heathrow and going to Greenpark Station (Near Piccadily) where most of the tourist attractions are. We all are US citizens, so no VISA is required. Also can someone recommend some english pubs and a good fish and chip joint near piccadily. Thanks |

Actually finding a truely independent pub in London is a feat in itself. Try John Snow at Broadwick Street, but I'd go to Lamb & Flag between Leicester Sq. & Covent gardeb tube station; on Rose St. or look at this site for pubs of your liking

Here is an update on my stop in London: We had 7 hours to stay and arrived at about 7 am London time. THe kids and I ended up taking the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station. We figured we couldn't get too lost because the train only stops in 1 place! Once we arrived at the Paddington station we took a walk around the area and stopped off for coffee. It was good for the kids to stay awake at this time becuase once we boarded the plane to India my daughter fell asleep and slept for the entire journey. Although costly, our trip to Paddington was a great alternative to staying in the airport for 7 hours. THis was not a cheap adventure. The Heathrow express trip costs about $100 US for 2 kids and an adult.

My favorite area of London was the walkway on the Thames between Westminister Abbey and the London bridge or beyond. As London being ridiculously expensive, there's the free Tate museum and a building with many theatres that I saw free jazz in. And it's just a pleasant walk along the Thames with many interesting things like a torture museum, the Globe theatre(shakespeare theatre), St. Pauls Cathedral, and other museums and restaurants.
I found alot of other parts of London boring with ugly, drab, monotonous, depressing looking architechture. |
