Srilankan Airl - Delhi to Heathrow - check this!

12,755 inclusive. (end of september/october)

This is almost half the price of all the other airlines. I don't care if the service is bad for that price, although has anyone actually flown this route with them? Why is it so cheap?

Also, can some kind person tell me whether or not I can book this ticket now, and then cancel it if i decide to stay in india? i phoned them up and all they could say was that any special conditions will be notified before the payment. All it says is:-

Rules
1 FARE VALID ONLY FOR INTERNET BOOKING
2 ONE WAY
3 VALID ON SRILANKAN AIRLINES

Anyone clarafy?

Sri Lankan is a high quality airline. Until not long ago it was managed by Emirates, a five star airline. Due to political reasons, the joint venture was terminated.

Probably they are not getting much bookings, hence the special fare. Also: You have to fly thru Colombo which is going in the opposite direction. Plus you have to stay overnight in Colombo to catch the London flight 14 hours later.

it is also possible to fly on Air India's flight 131 from Mumbai for as little as Rs. 13216, or from Chennai with Kingfisher and then transfer to Virgin Atlantic in Mumbai for Rs. 14622 as well as from Bangalore with a stopover in Delhi (to change flights and connect with AI flight 111) for only Rs. 13105 or from Kolkata for Rs. 12616 (again connecting to AI 111 in Delhi), believe it or not - its cheaper to fly from Bangalore or Kolkata with a connection then from Delhi direct on the same flight! (tickets are booked together by Air India).

the point i am trying to put across is that you could get to Heathrow from several places in India for a similar fare and save your hassle of hiking it to Delhi just for a flight home.

i would suggest instead your taking Air India's direct flight AI 111 at 2 PM to London Heathrow (from IGIA, New Delhi). the all inclusive fare for the 9 1/2 hour non-stop flight is Rs. 14000 on most days (and higher on others). usually tickets are not refundable, however, the dates can be changed with a penalty. for details contact Air India.

make sure all tickets you buy include all taxes and surcharges as more than half of the ticket price is the fuel surcharge, booking charges, passenger fees, airport taxes and the UDF from New Delhi (user development fee to build the new airport!).

in my honest opinion, absolutely nothing wrong with Sri Lankan (though no longer managed by Emirates), it would just be an unnecessarily long trip with the detour over Colombo - and for just an extra twenty euros you could be in Heathrow ages before you'll get there with them. (only recommend Sri Lankan if you want to break your journey and visit Sri Lanka before you continue on to Heathrow).
