Sale of return ticket

I probably will not use my return ticket for BA as I am staying longer than a year. Is there any option to sell it or get some discout on purchasing a new ticket. Is it possible to get the name changed and there a website to sell tickets online?

Not that I know of no; tickets are personal. You'll just have to ditch it I think; I don't see the airline giving you a discount for not using it either.

yep i agree with Machadinha... there is no chance to transfer/sell or refund your ticket... keep it in case of an emergency you could always use it for your grand escape! p.s. how come you're staying more than a year... how did you manage to get such a long visa!

Oh, certainly; when I said "ditch it," I rather meant simply don't use it

There is a chance, although probably not a big one,but worth trying.

Air tickets are not transferable, but do check the terms for your particular ticket on BA's site, or even give them a ring.

If, like most of us, you bought the cheapest, least flexible fare, there's probably no refund for cancellation, but, if you didn't, there may be.

There's also the possibility of changing the date.

I was in a similar position once; I bought the return fare because it is about 1/3rd the cost of a single () but did not intend to use it. I did check with BA, and it was 'no' to any refund, and, although a date change was possible, it would have been too long from the outward journey, by the time I wanted to go back.

Yes, good point; contacting your airline company about it would be a cheap & easy (if not: the) way to find out what the possibilities are, of course.

Never a shot taken is a sure miss, as they say here. (From the Dutch down-to-earth observations dept.)

No. Quick and simple answer. Certainly not on BA. , all tickets on major carriers on most common routes are eTickets. They are just record-locators in the airline's computer. If you have an ARC issued paper ticket and do that, and you get the buyer in trouble.

It depends on the airline, and BA definitely don't allow this on the economy tickets they sell online.

Some airlines, Ryanair for instance, do allow name changes. Ryanair allows this until four hours from departure, for a £100 fee, but not for tickets where one sector has already been used.

Ryanairs plan of 'stand-seat' for free flight.
Of course, this will probably never happen, maybe for 50% less, but free?

Dude, please!

at the seat pitch in the illustration you provided, it would not even save space (airline seats are 'pitched' according to class - economy is usually 31 inches)... unless they pack in the airplane like a DTC bus (without restraints), there is no way they could get more on board... (unless they strap passengers on to the wings).

any of you read about the Air India (domestic) flight that had three passengers too many? the pilots and crew have been de-rostered... as it was a serious infringement of passenger safety and would have caused the flight to be termed 'illegal', luckily (or unluckily, depends on your point of view as this was actually the cause of the 'discovery'), the plane started moving while still anchored to the aerobridge and tore off the door!

i'd rather you don't share it with Ryanair, they are liable to USE it! as with their ideas to make the toilets 'pay' and other new fangled economies... inflight food is 'to buy', if you want to board first you must pay extra, or if you wish to have choice of an aisle or window seat and so forth.

most of these economy airlines aren't really that cheap, I recently bought a ticket from Berlin to Athens on Aegean Air (a full service code share flight with Lufthansa, with 20 kgs. hold luggage) for under 80 euros... if i had flown EasyJet instead (from the other airport in Berlin - so i would have had to change airports too), it would not have been much less as they charge a booking fee, and an extra 11 euros for a single bag in the hold (and more if you take on extra bags)! (of course they don't serve you even a biscuit and water... forget about the luxuries of an inflight magazine).

Most of their tickets cost far more than that, and if you had to buy a new ticket at short notice, it could well cost far more than £100, if one was even available. At least they give you that option, which is more than most airlines will do.

This is not a plan, right now it's a survey they're carrying out to find out if people are even remotely interested in it. Not sure what trains are like in other parts of Europe and North America, but anyone who travels by train in the UK is already used to standing - even on long distance journeys where you bought a full price ticket in advance!

While I'm not convinced about "stand-seating", 50% or even free flights are not at all unlikely, Ryanair have given away free flights in the past.

Exactly! The point is that those things are available if required, but you have the option of not paying for them.

Personally, for a weekend away on a one or two hour flight, I'm delighted to be able to fly for next to nothing. I'm perfectly happy to bring a sandwich if I happen to be flying at a meal time, I don't care where I sit and I certainly don't need to pay for checked baggage.

Right now, they are offering flights including taxes for £5 (Rs 400) and while I'm not suggesting that that price will be available for everyone who wants to fly, they are there and have offered people like me who are not rich the opportunity to travel far more widely round Europe than would otherwise ever be possible.
