I talked to my doctor about my fear of flying a few years ago (I had to fly 2 weeks after 9/11), and she prescribed Klonopin (the generic is clonazepam). It helps with the anxiety and also makes you sleepy. The only problem is that I'm a little groggy the day after I take it, so I actually take a full dose the night before I'm supposed to fly, then a smaller dose about an hour before the flight.

I guess I have to count myself lucky. Something about engine sound makes me drowsy as soon as it comes on, and I have hard time staying awake even through the take off.

I have the combined delights of being quite tall (six two) and afraid of flying, so find it very difficult to sleep on flights. My Dr prescribes me diazepam in 10mg doses for longer flights which I find helps me drift off for a couple of hours at worst...
But as someone ^^^ said, I always find the flight when am off travelling an exciting time, and rarely want to sleep! A few years ago while flying over Africa, while most of the plane were asleep, I saw the sunrise over the equator, while off to the west of the plane, a huge thunderstorm built. It's one of the most incredible things I've ever seen, and am glad I wasn't asleep at the time!! |
