NokAir has started Bangalore - Bangkok flights

NokAir, a low cost subsidiary of Thai Airways has started daily flights between Bangalore and Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi airport). Thai also has daily services between Bangalore and Bangkok already.

Bookings can be made at their website (www.nokair.com). They seem to have priced the return tickets at Rs.10,000 per pax. There is also an option to fly biz class for almost double that fare. Timings of their flights are as usual at ungodly hours (0335 dep from BLR).

Hopefully NokAir would succeed in their new route unlike JetStar who bolted after 1 year of operations.

They are going to start flights from Chennai & Delhi also in some time. Also the Cabin Crew are trained to give shopping & sight seeing guidance to those who are travelling for the first time.

This is a hot sector. I have travelled in Thai airways and would give this a try in the (Hopefully)not too distant future. The cost of the fare in March was arnd 14500(with taxes). So, it looks like this is going to be arnd 2000 rs less. The site seems to be down and is not working for me.

Btw, I thought Jetstar flight route was Bangalore and Singapore. One can take Tiger airways from singapore to bangkok .

I've already booked Goa-Colombo-Bangkok 21900/- for August. You get overnight in 5 star hotel in Colombo. Sri Lanka air. Can't get to Nokair site to see Bangalore flights. Booked Nokair Bangkok-Chiang Mai for 3000bht. All return.

Jetstar ceased flying Bangalore-Singapore 7-8 months ago.

I am going to fly Singapore-Bangkok on AirAsia, then Bangkok-Bangalore next month, and back the same way. Will update this thread to update everyone on how it went.

Just an update.

I flew Nok Air from Bangalore to Bangkok last night (3.35am, 10th August). Check in began around 12.30am, baggage scanning and other check in procedures were performed at Nok Air-only Xray machines and check in counters. Pretty smooth, and you can't miss the bright yellow Nok Air personnel who were there in force.

Cleared customs round 12.50am. Much smoother than the last time I flew out of Bangalore — they've shifted the immigration counters from those horrible wooden cubicles next to duty free, to a far larger area in front. Quick and efficient; a vast improvement.

Flight was scheduled for 3.15am boarding, but they began boarding passengers around 2.50am. By 3am most of the plane was filled. Take off began promptly at 3.34am — i was pleasantly surprised! We were up in the air quickly.

As you may know by now, Nok Air is the Thai budget carrier best known for its domestic discount routes throughout the land of a thousand smiles. Bangalore-Bangkok is their first international sector. So all the aspects of budget carriers remain: no food/drinks/alcohol served on board — small snacks and hot coffee/chocolate and beer are available but at a price. Rather reasonable: 30 baht or 1USD for most items. Payment in USD or Thai baht only (did not seem to take rupees?)..

Legroom and space: OK. Comparable to most of the other airlines I fly (I fly mostly Asian discount carriers). Perfectly fine for a shorthaul trip like this — only 4 hours.

Unfortunately I got stuck in a seat that could not recline even a fraction of a inch because the button was faulty. But the rest of the seats seemed to be working ok. Don't expect regular economy class-type of recline, though — this one only goes down a wee wee bit

The best part?

The fare!

3372 rupees base fare; with taxes included it was 5100 rupees. A real bargain.

Am satisfied with the airline and it seems rather popular with Bangaloreans going on a weekend hop. This is even cheaper than the Kolkata-Bangkok sector (5500-7500 rupees, Druk Air and Thai Airways).

Probably not anytime soon, if they are even planning that route, but Air India Express is scheduled to fly Mumbai-Singapore at discount rates from October (and also from Pune via Mumbai).

Nok-air have stopped their operations from Bangalore. One has to book a Thai Airways flight to reach bkk from Bangalore.

The cost is somewhere around Rs 14,000.
