Luggage kg allowance of airlines
Does someone know which airline going into Europe has the most free kg luggage allowance? Normally it's 20 kg for economy class plus 8kg hand luggage. My neighbour will leave soon and wants to take more than that without paying extra. Last time she had excess luggage with Swiss Air and they charged her $30 per kilo extra!
Yes, I could browse all their websites but am too lazy Maybe someone here knows already? ![]()

I've had up to 8kg above the 20kg waved through with Thai Air, but over that limit had to pay. Air New Zealand was the same - may have been slightly more generous. But I'm not sure that these airlines will serve your purpose for European travel. Thai Air might.

I think Austrian Airlines (which I'll be flying home from Mumbai on Wednesday; OMG I can't believe this trip is almost over!!!) may allow 25 or 30? Check their website.

British airways: 23k check-in (but must be only one case); carry on not limited by weight, but must be able to lift into locker un-aided. Upgrading to economy-plus for at least one leg gets you another 23k check-in; carry on is limited to one if going through, or returning from, a British airport.
Changes by the minute: that was true when I flew late last year.

Jet Airways allows 28 kilos + handluggage (+ purse?). Not withstanding a previous thread, I've had good experience with them - I even brought back a bulky item as well as a suitcase with no problem.
I think they even have a special deal for students, who can take another case. |

I think every airline is different.
My daughter just flew to Argentina on Continental and she could take a carry-on bag of 45 lbs. and check in 2 bags of 50 lbs. apiece. But they never weigh carry-on's so... |

There is a lot of variation in how individual airline employees handle things. One person in front of me was hassled big time by SIA for 1 kilo over. When I got up with an obvious overweight the now overwrought agent passed me. What he was swearing under his breath I don't want to know. Also consider strategy as above. But, do note that I was talking about carry-on.!

different rules
Typically rules for baggage are different if either origin or destination is the US. Since, CO flies to Argentina via Houston, different baggage limits apply.

But... did their mother's friend's cousin's neighbour's uncle know one of the receptionists at head office?
![]() I was, by the way, once advised by an Indian friend to bribe the check in person! Hmmm.... Not even in India, I think.... |

I'm sure she would have a job with one case weighing 23Kg, and I'm disgusted with BA for this.
As a wimp, I can just manage it --- but only just. Flew back with a 23Kg and a 20Kg last year: getting them downstairs from my friend's flat was hell, but at least it was trolleys and drivers from then on. The current carry-on limits from Heathrow are due to concerns of national paranoia (sorry, I mean security), not the airlines. |
