LHR to Delhi - Virgin or BA

We will be first-timers in India. I am looking at flights from London to Delhi in January/February 2009. What are your views on whether Virgin or BA are better?

There is a £5 difference in price, but the BA flights departs at 11:40 and arrive at 01:25 the following day - allowing more time to explore on our first day, but arriving in the middle of the night. We intend to arrange a Namaste India pick up.

The Virgin flight leaves at 22:00 but arrives at 11:40 Delhi time, so perhaps a little less scary?

Grateful for your thoughts.

take Virgin anyday, I've suffered enough with BA espesially on check-in baggaeges. I refuse to fly BA (and I do not know or have any association with the famous model in the BA tangle, I just sat beside her and she was sweet to me)

I've done it with Virgin 3 times & BA once & Vinay's correct Virgin comes out tops, plus like you say much better arrival/dep times both ways. KK

KK, that's interesting because I was thinking that the arrival time for the BA flight was better - we would arrive at 8.30 ish UK time, go straight to bed, get a reasonable few hours sleep and get up the following morning ready to go out (and we can always take a siesta later on), whereas if we get the Virgin flight, its a red eye for us and we lose out on most of Sunday's seeing time. The only other option would be to fly on the Friday night, which means taking an extra day off work - delaying a day into the schedule means messing up the intinerary later on.

Puchoo I have considered Jet, but hadn't read great reports about them. In any event, I think the flights are about the same time as the Virgin ones, so no real difference.

Well if timings dont make a difference then ok...but what exactly have you heard about them..because im flying to the UK in 2 weeks on Jet , in and out, and we chose Jet over Virgin because we got better reports...in fact to be honest we had a Virgin employee ( a close friend) tell us that its better with Jet..

Do travel to London or Via LHR to US once in 2-3 months and my experience with Jet has been always top class. Virgin is good but I prefer Jet as they dont display the supercilious attitude that some European carriers do with Indians. I have faced it with BA even in business class - not in your face kind of discrimination, subtle but nonetheless evident

I was looking at the thread "which airline would you choose" in this forum. Now I look again, there's nothing specifically negative, so it may be that I just felt more comfortable with the names that are known to me i.e. BA and Virgin.

I'll look again at the prices and times, to see what's best. Perhaps we should rename this thread "Virgin or Jet?"!

I find it easier to get straight into the swing of things taking the 22.00 from HTR & arriving in Delhi 11.40. By the time you've eaten & had a drink on the plane it's gone midnight, so i find my body is ready for sleep & when i land in Delhi it feels like 11.40 the next day so i book into the hotel then hit the streets of Delhi (enough to awaken the dead!) & usually try to stay up until 11-12pm (Depending on what time the meet-up finishes!) I find doing it this way i don't suffer from any jetlag/time differences. KK

Thanks for all your advice. A while ago when I was looking at this there was a site with reviews of airlines according to what route they were flying. Can I find it now? Of course not!

I'm not sure that, having read some of the advice on this forum, that I would fly with Air India if they paid ME to fly to delhi...

But perhaps that is because I am lucky enough to have the choice...
