Start the booking process and you'll see what the real fare is; be prepared for it to be significantly higher. Don't worry, if you leave the site before entering your credit card details, there won't be a booking!
I didn't include taxes because Jet Airways takes the total number of tickets and adds to that the total taxes and fuel surcharges. I'm buying six tickets, so I couldn't tell what the taxes and surcharges for each ticket would be so I could add it here.

They are not supposed to do that by IATA regulations. Each ticket has to be clearly priced. For six tickets, on the same plane, I'd look for a consolidator who could do better. Since you have not posted origin and destination airport; it is difficult to compare. Dates matter too; weekday instead of weekend; segment count etc.

Is this fare too good to be true? Everything else out there is so expensive. Has anyone ever ridden the "special economy" class? Is it bearable for the 15 hour flight? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Would you care to mention the sector you are traveling? I'd assume its the New York to India fare you are talking about.

In this case, I'd be talking about Houston or Dallas--whichever is cheapest.

My analysis of the cheapest available fare for mid-july puts it at 682USD one-way but it is a horrible (in my opinion) two airline two stop itn. Dallas-Atlanta-Dubai-Delhi. Since I surmise that there are children involved; it becomes tricky negotiating connections. This would have been an ideal for a frequent flyer with no checked baggage.

I find mid july for six persons single airline solution between 750+USD/one-way (the fare for a child under 12 is slightly cheaper). Houston is a Continental fortress hub; and Dallas is an AA fortress hub. Continental will fly you Houston to Newark to Delhi American will fly you Dallas to Chicago to Delhi. However, you might get Luftansa to fly you Dallas to Frankfurt to Delhi. Since there are six tickets and children, if I were you; I'd call 1-800 numbers of these airlines and let their agents sweat/earn their keep. The web-based fares are typically good in ferreting out round-trips economically.

Another option for you is to go check with makemytrip.com or vayama.com. To get a sense of how the fares vary by date; day of the week and month use farecompare.com which has a vast database of fares on a day-by-day basis. It factors in holidays, blips for special events etc.

In none of my searches Jet comes closer when origin is Dallas/Houston. Why ? because their fuel surcharge is higher than others.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for taking the time to check fares for me. I'll certainly give those 800 numbers a try also.

Those fares are including all taxes and surcharges. This being Sunday; dont forget to buy the sunday edition of either Houston or Dallas's newspaper and check for local consolidators; call them. Why? because in this economic climate; airlines offload a lot of un-published; non-mileage accruing fares to such consolidators for sale

Not gonna work for her. The booking class is O. And I dont show 6 seats on the BRU-DEL leg (Brussels - Delhi leg) Cheapest I see is 690+ in O for an Adult fare for that date.

Each airline has a booking class normally assigned with a single letter. Each flight can have multiple class designations for the same seat. It indicates how they might price that seat, or whether it is assigned to codeshare or upgraded ticket The combinations are endless .

Jet has about 21 booking classes. Its first class has two booking class: F & A. F probably is walkup unrestricted, and A might be discounted first. Premiere has 5 and rest are for Coach seats.

O is deeply discounted but refundable booking class. I am sure there must be a designation for non-published, non refundable ticket that earn little or no miles/points. I am not a Jet (9W) expert, so I might be off on the exact details. The principles are the same for all airlines, just the rules and restrictions differ.
