Jet Airways Fares--Too Good To Be True?

I am checking the internet to book flights. I have done numerous searches and keep coming up with Jet Airways as having the cheapest fares. On the Jet Airways website, for one adult in July the fare was $486(usd). This was of course without taxes and in the "special economy" class.

Is this fare too good to be true? Everything else out there is so expensive. Has anyone ever ridden the "special economy" class? Is it bearable for the 15 hour flight? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

That sounds about right for a one-way ticket in the summer. I didn't know they let you book a one way, that's really good! I can't imagine that special economy is any different than any economy class. Maybe they make you sit in the lavatory

Not such a bad thing with five kids along, eh?

I haven't tried to book it yet. I will be after Tuesday when I get the PIO cards in hand. Do you think I might have trouble getting a one-way?

No wonder you want to check it out, does sound too good to be true! Where does this flight depart from, which city does it arrive at?

Super economy probably means a middle seat. I'd also like to hear from someone who's taken this flight is super economy!

I have flown domestic "super" economy on Jet Air domestic. It was no different than regular economy. I thought it was just a promotion thing? I do remember that I did not get as many air miles as normal economy. Interesting to find out though.

I've flown Jet Airways from Toronto for about that price, plus taxes. Maybe $1200 total, round trip.
"Super Economy" is just a special fare - no difference in the seats. There's only 2 classes on the plane, Business/premier and economy. Jet is a good airline. Nice planes, a fair bit of room, good entertainment console and the food isn't bad except for their "snack" which is usually some dreadful soggy bread with a weird perfumey-spiced mystery filling.

Five Kids!!! You are a brave traveler! I'm sure they will do fine as it's so exciting. Better bring a lasso, just in case

I don't know if one-way will be a problem. Probably not. Some countries require a round-trip or onward travel ticket to enter (they don't want you staying there), but you are not going as a regular tourist. Maybe someone else has more info on this. Maybe you can call the airline before you book to make sure this is "kosher"

The problem with India, as you have already found out, is they have many rules and they are often inconsistent with each other. Even just as a regular tourist this often results in one's head spinning off one's shoulders

I just found this thread.

I don't anticipate having much problem based on the responses in the thread. They didn't even ask about or demand any evidence of a return ticket on the visa applications for my boys.

Not knowing your exact month of travel - I found for mid-aug SQ to be the cheapest from HOU-DEL (excluding taxes) - Dont know how much the taxes would be, since these vary from Airport to airport.

NSPCL SQ N Round-Trip 300.00(USD) E

The farebasis is NSPCL which is what you might want to ask your TA to pull up. SQ is Singapore Air, booking class is N and E is for economy. This is two stop flight

Same dates; one stop cheapest is NW/DL/AF @ about 1031USD all told. 9W,Jet airways is a two stop flight to India from Texas.

I don't know what you mean by NSPCL. I really don't want to go through a travel agent(if that's what you meant by TA)--I think that'll wind up costing more. I tried looking up fares on Singapore Airlines and still couldn't find fares that came anywhere close to being as cheap as Jet Airways.

Normally each airline publishes multiple fares called fare basis. NSPCL indicates a farebasis (each pair for a particular date, on a specific airline, could have over a dozen farebasis with different price structure, and different restrictions) Most websites query directly or indirectly similar databases - i.e query GDS (Global Delivery System)

Normally; If I were you; I'd mix web-based queries; with a phone-call to some of the reputed TAs. Trust me; It works.

Since I'm not a TA, but a moderately FF (Frequent flyer) I look around when I am not flying my own airline (I'm a mileage and status w***)

YMMV

Sorry; I forgot I was on IM and not on bootnall or flyertalk In future, I'll use NYT's strategy of expanding acronyms with explanations... blame it on too much cachaça..

A fare quoted without taxes is a meaningless number.

Start the booking process and you'll see what the real fare is; be prepared for it to be significantly higher. Don't worry, if you leave the site before entering your credit card details, there won't be a booking!

Taxes and surcharges are a function of the Airports in question. Security surcharge, passenger facility surcharge, Development fees, landing fees, fuel surcharges and number of connections or segments e.g. till last year; transiting via LHR was a whopping surcharge compared to Schiphol. OP did not give an Origin or Destination airport

Development fees for international pax is amongst highest in BLR or HYD currently. Hence makes sense to fly in or out domestically from those airports.
