International terminal to domestic terminal, Mumbai

I was originally planning to stay in mumbai one nigtht but now considering flying to final destination without staying in Mumbai. We arrive in Mumbai international airport and our connecting flight is from terminal 1 of domestic aiprort (i think after 3.5 hours). I guess we have to go through customs and then collect luggage and go to domestic airport. How far is domestic airport from international? Are there any airport transportation between airports or do we have to get our own transportation

the terminals are far. about 2-3 km by road. there is an airport shuttle between the two terminals. I have no idea how good the frequency is.

If you feel you are late or the line for the shuttle is too long .. simply go out & catch a taxi. You should not pay more than 100 rupees for this. this includes any charges for luggage.

do yourself a favour and get a prepaid taxi , the bus can take a while ,

I do not have first hand knowledge, but once there was a girl in a flight sitting next to me who had the same issue. She was really nervous. On landing though there was a airport rep who was helping people with connecting flights. Every 15 minutes or so there was a shuttle which drives through the apron and so takes you there in just a few minutes. She was thrilled.

The question gets asked a lot, so search around some for it.

As far as I know there are simply shuttles yes, and it's not all that far (well, I don't consider 3 kms. provided someone provides you with wheels very far). Taxis are always handy for emergency back-up of course (in a similar situation I've whizzed along the Delhi highway in a rickshaw once where they're not allowed, great fun )

(I see only now the original question dates from early April anyway, so hopefully it's been resolved. May be helpful to others though.)
