India - Oz/New Zealand

need to be in wellington mid april. i'm in chennai. what's the chepaest way to get there? so far, found US$615 chennai-auckland.
am i better off flying to somewhere in australia & getting some local version of ryanair from there?
all suggestions, as ever, much appreciated.

$615 seems very cheap for me. I haven't noticed any cheaps flights from Sydney to Wellington, I think there is only one to Christchurch, but yeah, what's wrong with $615 one way?

crikey! Who did you book with to get $615! That's a great fare. It would cost $2-300 just to get across the tasman. The unfortunate thing about Wellington - (beside the earthquakes, wind, tempreture, rain, and politicians) is that the runway is too short to take the big international flights - hence direct long haul flights have to go to either Chch or Aklnd.

Good coffee there though - and the occasional pint.

hey there...on airindiaexpress, you can get a one way flight to Kuala Lumpur for 5900 Rs (~$150 USD) after taxes. From there, Air Asia X has flights to Gold Coast in Australia (outside Brisbane, not far from Sydney)...one way price from KL to Gold Coast is about $215 USD after all taxes...so that's $365 USD to east coast of Oz...and you could also squeeze in a visit to Malaysia if you want...i searched on both airindiaexpress.in and airasia.com, and the dates i tried were late march and early april...finally, Freedom Air flies from Gold Coast to Wellington for about $230 USD after all taxes (checked late march as well)...grand total of $600 USD...almost same price you found, but maybe a decent option if you have time to see some other places?

your current price if it includes taxes is a good one.

Check Tiger Airways to see if they fly from Chennai - they have good deals

US$615 is a good price. Who is it with? I have to head back to NZ in april also, thats much less than other prices Ive seen!

As far as I am aware, Tiger Airways DOES fly Chennai to Various Destinations in OZ via Singapore
Maybe even to KL.
