Across the board, fares on all carriers are higher now than same time last year

This does not include taxes, surcharges, landing fees and other sundries. Checked again over at Flights to India..
British Airways flight now dropped to £547! it was £635 yesterday. The only thing stopping me from booking is I can't make it to London for the morning flight (the arrival/departure time (Delhi) are offputting too).
Come on Air India drop yer prices!!

Hi DrRudi
Yes, the dates you mentioned are correct. The evening flight by Air India at 21:30 to Delhi would have been perfect (just like the last two visits, as it gives me time to get home from work (7am), do last minute preparations, head to London and then sleep on the flight.
Was thinking Delhi as entry & exit due to my itinerary which starts and ends like this...
Arrive Delhi. Same day evening flight to Indore.
Then, few days of my holiday would be in Delhi to see all the stuff I missed on previous trips, like Kushti wrestling which happens near the Jama Masjid but only on a Sunday.
Wasn't really keen on landing/exiting Mumbai, spent nearly two days there on my previous trip with a tour group and didn't leave wanting to go back.

Mumbai has a whole lot more to offer, but that's for another thread.Anyway, Heathrow 21:25, Mumbai 11:45, then returning from Delhi (you know the times) on BA = £536 (Carlton Leisure)
Then there's an 18:40 flight to Indore. (arr 20:00, £36, Jet)
.

I've just checked and now the Heathrow-Delhi direct for my dates has gone down to £548. Even the Virgin flight that I paid £650 for last week has gone down by £100.
Oh well, you win some you lose some. No matter what you pay the planes going to India so be happy!

The Air India prices do seem to fluctuate a lot. We ummed and aahed in April when they were around £480 for a september flight, went back on and they'd shot up to around £560, couple of days later they were down to £500 so we went for ot.
Btw are the horror stories to be believed about Air India? Being novices we went for best value direct flights, then read the mainly awful reviews after booking

I think BA and Virgin have just announced sales which might have something to do with it..
... I'm nervously checking prices for my flight next year. It's a bit too early to be getting worried just yet but it is very pricey direct (around the £650 mark as previously stated). I've been considering indirect, but a big thing for me is arriving in Delhi in the daytime (which is rare) as I learnt last year getting the Aeroexpress Metro to NDLS is so much easier and less worrisome than hoping someone will be around to collect you when you step off your plane in the early hours! To that end, Virgin's flight is actually really good, but I'm hoping the price drops!

Hi guys
Steven Think I needed to research Mumbai a bit more
My flight down there from Jaipur was 3 hours late, driving down Chappatty beach in a taxi just as the sun was going down
the following day our tour guide left us to our own devices, hadn't a clue what to do so went for the obvious - walk down to Gateway to India, which took ages. It was sealed off for whatever reason and was still choc a block full of tourists, left it disappointed.
My only nice memories there was of the tuk tuk driver (or was it a cab??) who used a meter(!) and charged me next to nothing to the trip back to my hotel. Oh and the countless wonderful people who asked for their photo to be taken as I walked along the beach.
I just looked up that Carlton Leisure you mentioned in your posts and did a few searches - bookmarked them to, so thanks for that.
They actually list more than one BA flight per day to Delhi unlike Tickets to India. The arrival/departure times aren't too bad either...tempting at £538 (Air India £100 more at the moment)
Cleartrip too are listing quite a few BA flights but they come in at £600.
Redbutton there's a Virgin flight at Cleartrip for £556 arriving late morning - this might be ideal for me too, Virgin's own site selling for over £100 more.
I'm going to decide what to do over this weekend I think.

Well I'm glad I waited a few days extra.
Checked all the air fare sights again today and found the original flight I wanted by Air India was now £1 cheaper than the next cheapest (BA at £548), which pleased me somewhat. Rushed down to the bank to transfer some cash between accounts and when I returned to buy the ticket, it had dropped down again to £528. Nice price compared to yesterday's £630. Bought!

I think he meant £528, if it was £228 I think I would have heard the shouts of delight, even though I'm a good 200 miles away.
Doh! Yes £528! Goodness me, at £228 I think I would have booked twice...I hope I didn't sent any IMikers rushing over to the TicketstoIndia website.. sorry for the typo. But maybe redbutton should recheck his flight price next year just incase it's dropped too

Thanks for the heads up spud
I haven't booked anything yet, as I'm going to wait for a little bit until I have definite dates pinned down (will depend on arrangements with work, etc, that have yet to be finalised), so I've been looking primarily to get an idea about cost. Hopefully I'll be able to get something around that level though. Happy you managed to get the flight for a (comparatively) reasonable figure.
