heathrow connection

I think this topic has come up before but I just realized I may have a problem connecting from TErminal 4 to terminal 2. The map says it takes at least 90 minutes but the BA schedule only gives me 85 minutes. I emailed BA this morning and am awaiting their response. I don't understand how they could have planned the flight connection this way. Has anyone had this problem and what happens if you miss the flight from Heathrow to Delhi? Do they just put you on the next one? Thanks!

I think they are been overcautious saying 90 mins i've had to swap terminals at Heathrow the last couple of times i've been to India & i would say it took about 30-40 mins 60 mins even if you are delayed slightly, this is providing you get your bags checked straight through without having to go to baggage reclaim of course. If they have given you a through ticket, I guess it is their responsibility to get you on another plane if the connection is missed. Whilst that might be base-line security, you still don't want the start of your trip delayed, or the journey made any longer than it has to be.

As there have only been two airports in my life in the past few years ---Chennai and Heathrow--- i don't have the experience of connecting there. But I think it is true to say that Heathrow has two states: occasionally totally snarled up from some security alert or industrial action or, mostly, pretty efficient.

I suppose it is BA's 'home' airport: they should know what they are doing. I think that, as long as your baggage is checked through, you'll be fine. No time for the shops, though!

...I noticed that the last time I was on a BA Heathrow-bound flight that was likely to be delayed (it wasn't in the end) they announced they would take details of everyone with a connecting flight for contingency planning.

Yes, it looks like they've made adjustments from Terminal 4 to Terminal 1.

You hear a lot about people being put on impossibly tight connnections though, and it generally does seem to be your own problem. I'd guess after the right amount of arguing they should accommodate you, but that may not be the position they'll initially take.

I'm often surprised how these airline companies can take your money without blinking then take no responsibility towards you whatsoever (think of that silly reconfirming your return flight rule, or else... I mean you've already paid for it right) but I guess for some reason we just let them get away with it.

Providing you booked both flights at the same time through the same agent it is the airlines legal responsibility to get you to your destination by hook or by crook at their cost.If you miss the flight through their incompetence it is their responsibility to accomodate you if neccessary & get you on the next available flight, although you can do without all this hassle really. Hope you have a smooth connection. KK

They hurry you through when your flight is boarding, don't worry. Someone will come along and let you jump the que to make your flight.

I have to say though, for a major Airport there sure is a lot of queing!!

You'll probably see BA/Airport staff hanging around just after you leave the plane.

Make sure they know you are in transit, and which flight you have to catch from which terminal.

They'll get you there. They even make TV programs about this sort of thing

Be prepared for legwork, though --- Those terminal buildings are huge!

Yeah Nick I was getting behind schedule, until airport staff came and told us that if we were on flight ....... We could go straight to security check, saving a lot of time!!

Tell me about it. From terminal 4 to 2 you have to take a bus and just one section takes 35 minutes! I'll be running as soon as I get out the plane...

As soon as you get out from terminal 4 there is a security checkpoint, it is better to let the BA agent know that you have to catch a connecting flight so that they can speed up your security clearance and put you on a buggy.

Do not leave the terminal. Not by yourself, at any rate . Anyway, you wouldn't be able to without going through immigration and customs and all that time-consuming stuff.

There should be a transit track almost from the point you leave the plane.

Heck... I remember now, there is a whole presentation on transiting that they will play to you before landing!!!!!

I did wonder!

As a USA man you must have transited through Heathrow, whereas as an ex-Londoner I've only ever arrived or departed from it
