I thought this maybe an interesting thread - at least for obtaining information:

I am at IIT KGP and have a 2-month summer break (poor Professor!) during 2nd week of May to mid July. I have booked a train ticket already t go to Hyderabad where my parents live with my lovely Nattu (for those who don't know - check my Avatar).

I want to make a trip to Jakarta with a stopover on the way back in Singapore as I have old classmates in both cities and would like to have a vacation. About 10 days in Jakarta and 5 days in Singapore. They have been gracious in asking me over for a long time. As a USC, I don't need a visa for the latter and get a tourist visa on arrival at Jakarta airport.

Which travel websites are good for buying tickets? Or, is it better to go with Indian travel agents? What is the best way to pay for the ticket - online & with travel agent (in the latter case, cheque or cash would be best). The departure from Hyderabad would be around the 17th of May and I would return to Hyderabad also.

I would assume that Singapore airlines would be the best choice.

I would presume that ex-CCU, Thai,Malaysia,SIN, and ex-MAA a few others like Srilankan are common.

I'd any day pay for these transactions via CC.

Poor Prof; HYD has steep user development fees for international passengers; so it makes sense to get a ticket ex-MAA. YMMV. The cheapest ex-HYD would be IC(a.k.a Indian Airlines) to SIN which is about 8K INR more than ex-MAA (This is looking from the outside using GDSs)

You might find a local TA in HYD who might give you non-published rates on a paper ticket
