Air India Express and Air India are not the same...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air-India_Express

Air India Express seems to be a branch of Air India.

I have heard that this airline is not providing food during the fligts.

I checked out for me a round flight from Kolkata to Bangkok, including all taxes within 7300,-- INR.

For all this internet booking on needs visa card which I don't have. So finally I still have to go to the Airport to get my tickets.

Air India-Indian Airlines merger finally completed
By Nicholas Ionides
The long-planned merger of Air India and Indian Airlines has finally become reality following the completion of remaining legal formalities. The final backing came from the Indian ministry of corporate affairs, which approved the merger of the two airlines under a holding company called National Aviation Company of India.

The actual integration of the two airlines' operations will probably take around two years to complete and the enlarged carrier will operate under the Air India name.

Their respective low-cost carriers, Air India Express and Alliance Air, are due to integrate their operations next month, when the Alliance name is expected to be eliminated.

Air India and Indian have both been modernising and enlarging their fleets in recent years and Air India head V Thulasidas, who is now the chairman and managing director of the enlarged carrier, said recently that proposals are being put together for the purchase of many more aircraft.

The new carrier is also seeking to join a multilateral alliance and Star Alliance is known to be its first choice.

Check out their price, but be sure to see the details of the flight since first they show only the prices excuding taxes!

Therefore u see first 1.339 INR from Kolkata to Bangkok, but if u dip into it is 4.200 INR in actual...

Air India Express - food and drink not included in the price

I found my flight for 7.200 INR. But later when I went to their office at Chowinghree 50, they told me it's 8.800 INR for my flight. U will not get even a bottle of water or any food, u have to pay exra. The shocking thing was for me that I will have to pay 1.200 INR extra for using their wheel chair transportation. So at this point u will understand why it is cheaper than other airlines at this moment.

Not sure if you are still seeking this information. I had once travelled from Delhi to Dubai on Air India express. The plane was brand new but a little cramped.

The crew much younger than Air India...and service better.

But do keep in mind that they fly through Amritsar and the wait at the airport can sometimes test your patience....especially since there are so many direct flights to Delhi. Perhaps they are still flying thru Amritsar unless something has changed.

Price wise Jazeera airways has pretty decent fares right now thru March to India and they fly direct.
