fog it is

the fog in Dehli is for real made all the worst by the incredible pollution.
stepping off the plane you are greeted by the haze and that's inside the airport terminal!!

I've been reading that it can be rather notorious : even the railways have now pulled out an British Raj relic called the "fog signal detonator". You can read that story here :

I was reading elsewhere that airport authorities are gearing up for more that 150 hours of delays...and all centred around December - February !!!

Get this.. International flights into
Delhi are not delayed by fog. But, most domestic flights are. Why? Because of a shortage of instrument rated pilots on domestic flights. In order to operate under low visibility conditions an airport should have proper guidance systems and the pilot should be instrument rated (so as to use those guidance systems effectively).

OK I wish I hadn't read that.

International flights out of Delhi were definitely delayed in Jan last year, and it was foggy, but whether the two were related....? The airport was a nightmare that day.

Incidentally I rather liked the fog. It made the city kind of strange and unearthly, much less in-your-face, you know the way fog seems to mute things? I enjoyed Delhi in the early morning fog, before everything had woken up and got going.
