Flights Thailand to east coast India etc
Hi everyone...this site looks handy when you dont know where to start!
We are a couple goin' to reach venerable age of 60 next year...(where did all those years disappear to?) We will celebrate (commiserate) with a memorable trip in Nov 2008...starting with a voyage on Star Clipper from Athens to Phuket and return in hops, Phuket or Bangkok to east coast India, cross India by train, and then return to Europe from west coast India...(guess the last is the easy bit!) We have travelled quite a bit in the past and enjoy the adventure...altho tend to look forward to ensuite now where looking for a rock to duck behind for modesty was ok when we were in our late 20's in the Sahara... First question...can anyone tell us where to start looking for flights from Thailand to India? Second...please recommend the entry point on east coast of India...better further south or further north? Guess that also relates to the time of year, end Nov/early Dec and to a good rail journey across India...which is the next question... please recommend a scenic route with some good stopovers? We would be happy to spend maybe first 2 weeks of December in India, so could visit places east coast & west coast and on rail crossing between... We will spend a bit of time surfing this site for other useful traveller's tips and look forward to member's responses to our questions....We have got nearly a year to plan stuff out... Thankyou in anticipation... Peter Pan and Wendy (we'll stick our pix up when we work out how to do that) ![]() |

Nice to see your post and the wonderful life of travel & adventure.
I believe that Thai Airways flies Bangkok to Kolkata and probably Hyderabad & Delhi direct too. I thought I also read that Jet Airways, one of India's best private airlines flies to Bangkok (from Delhi or Kolkata) and probably Indian Airlines (or whatever the merged Air India, Indian Airlines is now called) too. Your trip sounds exactly like the one that I plan to do when I first retire! I pesonally really like Calcutta and would make that my entry point from Thailand. There are also flight to India from Chiang Mai so you could see a bit of Northern Thailand on your way to India.
I found this site easy to use. I am not sure of the prices but it gives you a good idea of what airlines fly out of what cities. Some websites are more difficult because they require more precise airline codes etc. http://www.lowfares.com/airfare Good luck planning. I find the anticipation of a trip to be as exciting as the trip itself. |
