I agree, even in economy Emirates were wonderful on my one and only trip with them, as were Etihad. I only wish I was in a position to afford those fares myself.

Emirates' customer service was superb. Having to take prescription only drugs against motion sickness leaves me drowsy to the point of passing out as soon as I sit down. As you can imagine, this makes a 1am to 4am stopover less than ideal in terms of being awake to catch the connecting flight.

I asked at their customer service desk whether they knew yet which gate my flight would be going from and an incredibly helpful lady told me to let her know where I'd be sitting, then just relax and go to sleep, and she would take personal responsibility for waking me and making sure I made my connection.

Genuine customer service like that, above and beyond what is usually expected, is such a rare treat.

Just to update this, I recently flew the Air France Paris to Delhi run and they used a brand new plane with seat back entertainment centres. The transfer was tight which had worried me somewhat, but they provided separate coaches to take Delhi passengers direct to the next gate, presumably because so many passengers take that route.

On this new 747 there was plenty of leg space. The food was excellent, they even served champagne in economy and the cabin crew were helpful and I have to say they were far from ugly. Of course they were mostly male, which I didn't mind at all.

Maybe you should give them another try.

Delhi international airport connections

Hi HAYLO,
Tell me, what was that connecting flight you were shuttled to???
I'm wondering about the two hours commection time for my Chennai flight following a Paris-Delhi. Will that be enough??
It says Delhi International airport for both on the ticket, but maybe they are imprecice? I mean , Delhi-Chennai is a domestic flight, no?
Does any one know?

The connection that Air France provided a bus for was at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, it was Birmingham - Paris connecting with Paris - Delhi, with a connection time of just over an hour. I believe they provided a direct shuttle bus because over half of the passengers on the Birmingham - Paris flight were connecting to Delhi.

Your connection of Paris - Delhi to Delhi - Chennai may have twice as long but it still seems a bit tight to me, especially as you'd have to transfer somehow to the domestic terminal.

If it was two separate flights bought separately it would be unlikely to work out, but in your case they sold you a single ticket Paris - Chennai so it must be possible, presumably they make specific arrangements for their passengers who are making this connection and check your baggage straight through for you?

I'd contact Air France to check, I'm sure they can help you.

I had a stroke of luck with Air France.
I booked Edinburgh-Delhi and Chennai-Edinburgh with Air France and paid £394.
10 days before I was due to fly they phoned to say the Chennai-Paris flight was cancelled and I could change cities or cancel with a full refund.
Although I had already decided it was more convenient to travel back from Delhi I cancelled the ticket outright.
(I will be visiting TN for the eclipse of the Sun in Jan 2010 so was leaving Chennai till then)
I then booked Edinburgh-Delhi-Edinburgh with Air France for the same dates and paid £291 - saving an additional £103 (Rs7500)!!!! - and I'd thought the £394 was great to start off with.
But...I intend to fly next time on BA in the Premium Economy seats, or Lufthansa in Business - I'm fed up with cattle class.

I think BA are in all sorts of trouble. Qantas just tried to merge with them, but stopped because they weren't viable as a company. Might be a good time to get a cheap flight?.

I am flying Manchester / Mumbai with Finnair 29th March paid £290 via Southall Travel (& 2000Rs with Spicejet one way Mumbai to Kochi) Hope that helps.
Etihad fly from MAN via Abu Dhabi did that last year - best economy flight I have ever done (felt like Premium Economy) but they were pricier this year
