[Moscow] Not that I recall no but it's been a while/may have changed/was not expensive enough to register in my mind at any rate. If you want to venture out of the airport, yes most likely.

And ehm

Not to bother you but you've been asking about Hungary, England and Yugoslavia now all in one go. What the heck are you planning to do?! And why leave Germany out?!

please avoid makemytrip.com

makemytrip may look like a nice site, their fares might actually be a little lower, however unless you are *absolutely* clear with the operators on chat, you will run into problems.

their customer service and the majority of their operators (and I've sadly had to deal with a few) are abysmal.

I don't wish to rant, however I briefly will share the MMT experience. I had purchased a ticket in March for June-September 2005, explicitly asking what the fee would be if I extended the ticket to December. Thus informed, I purchased and have been in India since June. Then last week I sought to make the change to December and was informed my ticket was valid for only FOUR MONTHS, though I was not informed at purchase nor did the fare rules appended to my ticket note this.

So I urge you if you do use them (and I'm now wary of using them) that you ask EVERY question.

My status now is basically fighting with them daily, being promised callbacks with none arriving. Although they have checked the chat logs and explicitly acknowledged it was their error not to inform me at purchase, they are dragging their feet, delaying, refusing to change my ticket until they are certain the airline won't charge them for extending the ticket.

Customer service, in truth, has been serviceless. And I still await a change, though my original departure date is in less than 2 days.

They have now decided that if the airline doesn't extend my ticket, then the responsibility of MakeMyTrip, in spite of acknowledging *their* error, and in spite of the fact that I would *not* have purchased the ticket had i known it would be unextendable through december, they take NO RESPONSIBILITY for their mistake.

NO customer service in other words, and NO accountability even if it's their error.

At any rate beware makemytrip, beware any price that looks cheaper than the rest, there are likely to be hidden 'costs' either in stress or in money.

Post Air India cuts fares for US, UK

Air India, India's flagship carrier, has introduced special promotional fares with immediate effect for its flights from India to the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

These special fares -- the lowest in the recent past, claims AI -- are valid for travel between October 1 and December 31, 2005, and from February 1 to March 31, 2006. The deadline for ticketing is by October 31, 2005.

While the fare to London / Paris / Frankfurt is Rs 18,990, the tickets to New York / Newark / Chicago / Los Angeles have been priced at Rs 37,990.

If you're travelling from the UK British airways are doing a good deal on Delhi flights - but I think it finishes soon. However if you're registered with Airmiles UK they also have a deal with BA

that's plus 7700 tax = 26,690
(according to enquiries just made by my lady in Chennai )

Typical Indian thing: quoting prices without tax. Should be made illegal there as it would be here

flights to india from Vancouver

I have been researching for my trip in Feb-Mar 06. I will be flying into Kochi from vancouver and home from Delhi (family of 3). When I told my local travel agent in my home town that I could get a flight from Goyal in Vancouver (on Singapore Airlines) for $100 less per person than she quoted me she agreed to match their price for all but $20 each. I'm giving her my business even tho it's a tad more expensive. $1670 each plus tax. (Goyal quoted me $1650 each) Bains Travel is a bit cheaper but they can't give me the dates I want. Going with my local travel agent saves me a trip on the ferry and supports a local small business. Plus if I have any problems I know who to call. The personal touch means a lot!

Good to hear, rcreeker, I agree that it is easier dealing with a local travel agent and it is nice that you have found a local one who will match prices. Please pass on the contact information as it might be helpful for other islanders.

Singapore Airlines is very good and you will appreciate the overnight in Singapore to rest up a bit; all the best for a great trip!

A few specials for Aussies that I just found -

Return flights on Malaysian Airlines from any Aussie mainland capital city to any of the following cities - Mumbai-Colombo-Ahmedabad-Bangalore-Kolkata-Dhaka-Delhi-Hyderabad-Male-Chennai-Karachi for $A879 plus taxes (ex-Perth for $A789), must depart by Oct 31st 05, max 3 months stay, stopovers permitted each way in KL. - see bestflights.com.au here for details

Also British Airways to Dehli - ex-Sydney only - $A1029 + taxes return for travel departing anytime from now until 31 Jan 06. It's BA to Bangkok then AirIndia to Dehli, with stopovers permitted each way in Bangkok. Valid for 12 months stay. See bestflights.com.au here for details.

I'm hanging out for a good price on an open jaw Melbourne-Kolkata then Mumbai-Melbourne if anyone sees one

Nice one flaky; but those guys seem to think there is only one place in India!

BA prices seem to be in YoYo land. I was just congratulating myself on having saved £100 on a special offer, checked back a few days after the prices had gone up again to find them back at the special-offer price.

If you want a giggle, check out the BA London/Chennai prices for a few days either side of Christmas: the variation is huge!

Montreal to Mumbai stopover Paris

Whooooooopie!!......... Not the price of the fare........rather Mumbai once again!!!

The fare thru a Tour Co, ticket bought from Travel Agency (Algonquin Travel), Montreal to Paris (Air Canada), Paris to Mumbai via Doha (Quatar Airways). Stop over in Paris 3/4 days both ways.

Leaving Dec (05) first week return Jan (06) last week, Canadian $1595 plus Tax $309.39, TOTAL $1904.39.

Its the best I could get.
