@Ba9rn:

"Have you tried makemytrip.com?"

Yup, they quoted me $1426 per ticket, inclusive from Atlanta to Mumbai even though they had $799.00 listed in their add. We are two adults flying, maybe the only cheap tix are for single seats?

On Air India's website right now they are talking about free companion tickets between the US and India.

I plan to check this out as soon as I talk to my travel companions. Has anybody else used this promotion?

And - any advice or anything? I see that people aren't crazy about Air India -- but do you dislike it enough to recommend turning this down if it turns out 4 people can travel for, say, $2400 r/t NY-Delhi?

I wonder if the advertised low fares are based on this idea.

In my experience, book well in advance, through a bucket shop agent found on net. for example a return flight london to mumbai cost £355.00 for next jan one month stay.

Not bad as this year paid £475.00 for two weeks in goa.

Hey all,

Just to post a good deal, i got my flight ticket for travel in december for 1090 incl taxes from Miami to Hyderabad. I actually wanted to go to chennai, but i figured even if i spent 100 bucks on the hyderabad chennai ticket, I would still be better off than 1400.

Happy fare search!

2007 Chennai in Dec

We got tickets from Mpls, MN USA to Chennai for 1859.00 each incl taxes, etc. This is for the Dec-Jan season. (Lufthansa airlines) I believe this was a tad cheaper than what we paid last year for same flight, so who knows how things get figured??

At first we tried booking ourselves online thru Lufthansa site as the prices were really looking good but when it came to the final page of transaction the message kept saying there was no information available and therefore we couldn't book.

We ended up going thru an agent who specializes in Indian trips as she's from India herself. We are not complaining about the above price as it came out better than most of what we saw online plus the airline is topnotch in maintaining their planes.

Thanks crowgirl

Don't suppose you have the details of the agent.

Thanks

Just wanted to add that on my first India trip I had a REALLY bad time with Southall Travel, and going on review sites afterwards (doh!) I found I am not the only one.

I have always found it easier to book direct with the airline, and it's often just as cheap as through a third-party. I check flights on www.cheapflights.co.uk (www.cheapflights.com) and then once I know the airline name I go straight to their website.

At the moment, the cheapest flights London - Delhi seem to be with:

Finnair
Etihad
Air France

and in the past I've had good deals with
Turkish Airlines
Qatar Air

Hi all,

I'm stuck down here in the ass end of the world (othewise known as Australia), planning to travel to India around the fourteenth of January.

Currently, the cheapest way I can think of doing this is Aus to S'pore, and then S'pore to India - getting out of Australia is ridiculously expensive, and Singapore is the cheapest hub for me to get to (really, I've only got a choice between Bangkok, KL and Singapore). What is the _cheapest_ way for me to fly into in India from Singapore? I'm meeting someone who's going to be in Calcutta on the fourth, so they've got ~10 days to get to wherever I land, or else I can travel to them - it's really not a big issue one way or the other, as I don't really care where in India we go.

Currently I'm thinking my cheapest option is Tiger into Chennai or Kochi for a grand total of ~SD$300. Is anyone able to prove me wrong?

from Japan

Hello, looking to go to Cochin from Japan in early Feburary.

I have been quoted the below price from H.I.S. a big chain travel agency in Japan.
The quote is for 2 tickets, round trip.

254540 yen. 182000 yen ticket+tax
KIX(Kansai International Airport) to Singapore(changi)
Singapore to Cochin
Cochin to Singapore
Singapore to KIX

A rough conversion is 110 yen to 1 USD.

Anyone have recommendations about other places I should look for tickets? thanks for help!

i've never paid more than 1100 including taxes for NYC-Mumbai. Now last year, a friend who is a travel agent advised me to buy a one way ticket to India (cost me 600 USD) and to buy my round trip from India. I got my round trip Mumbai-NYC-Mumbai ticket for 38000 rps last year. i plan to do the same this year, since I know I'll be making another trip sometime this year.

I heard from an Indian travel agent that one can buy a round trip ticket in India for NYC - Mumbai, and have the ticket shipped to US. Most of the rock-bottom rates that one gets from Indian specialist travel agents, apparently, are just that with a commission to the US agent.

I have not actually done this yet.
