JFK to Hyderabad Oct, 07 -

I will be traveling from NY to Hyderabad, India in mid-October and returning in December.
Am seeking a reliable and helpful travel agent to get a "consolidator fare"; Emirates has been highly recommended. Suggestions are most welcome.

Now there is no such thing as consolidator fares. If you like several stops I would use Emirates. For one stop hop I use Northwest airlines from nwa.com and most times I get equal if not better price than Indian travel agents (and they used to be cheapest). I also check with makemytrip.com through web chat and email (not by phone, they are pushy)
Good luck, let us know

You don't specify what you are looking for: lowest fare, fewest stops, shortest total duration, best food and service?

Emirates is expensive (~ $1600). The lowest presently available online NYC-HYD rt fare appears to be 1265 on Air India. You can call a few Indian agents to see if they can beat it.

However this may be a little early to see any specials, you may have more options in a couple months.

Another unusual option to investigate is Continental's nonstop to Delhi (~ 1075), and then to Hyd on a budget domestic carrier. Probably have to spend a night in Delhi.

Good luck. Let's know what you find.

Chuck, I was on a visit to Queens, NY couple weeks ago and checked out some agents in Jackson Heights, NY from the phone books. One agents mentioned something about a 14 day prior payment for Air India to Delhi from NY for $860 US inclusive of Tax. I thought this was a super deal because from Toronto, Canada it's a lot more to Delhi on Air India. I don't have the phone numbers for this agent but check the yellow pages or on the internet. Good luck and safe travels.

Hi Chuck! I have been to India many times with Emirates. They are not the cheapest but they offer the most destinations there. Well worth a try.

Atlanta-Mumbai flights for August

ALthough the site Make My Trip! advertises an Atlanta-Mumbai price of $799.00, I was just quoted a price for AUgust 2007 (for 2 adults) for $1429 each ticket for AIr India all inclusive. This is just slightly less than American Airlines whom I have my frequent flyers miles through. Thus, unfortunatelly it's not worth it for me. What are these $799.00 fares about anyway? They even have one advertised (NY to Delhi) for $599.00...is this price legitimate or before taxes and other fees?

I tried to book a ticket to London from chennai online. But there was no option of online payment with Credit Card. Is it so for all international airlines to london?

Wow that is a great deal

My buddy is traveling NY-Hyderabad in 3 weeks so its peak NRI summer vacation season here and his round trip fare is $1690 on Northwest with one stop in Amsterdam.

We really should try Jackson Heights, we got it at Isha Travels in Edison, NJ. What was the travel agency's name in Jackson Heights? Thanks in advance

The best bet is to wait about 2 to 3 months before you buy your tickets. I am planning on going end of December or early Jan '08 and the fare are starting at $1700 from SFO to MUM. I know they are very high because when I shop around in Sept or Oct, I could get them for about $1400 to $1600 inclusive. That is with 1 stopover.

Also, I don't think consolidators give out the best fare. I went to India in October '03. I started to search for tickets in August and went through travel agents, makemytrip, expedia and other online site but no one beat Cathay Pacific price. They gave me the tickets for $980 inclusive from SFO to MUM. One of the agents thought I was bluffing with the quote, so I made a friendly wager with her. Of course, when I got my tickets I went to show it to her and she gave me my $100 bucks.

Hello,
I'm traveling in August from Florida to Mumbai. It seems that I can't get anything for less than $1500. Is that pretty typical? Does anyone know if the price will be getting higher or lower as we approach August?
Thank you!

Have you tried makemytrip.com?

Thoughtcrimes, I found for August, Miami -Mumbai on Delta for 1478, on makemytrip.com cheapest was 1410 by gulf airlines. I would wait till 4,5 weeks before departure for serious enquiry.

I am flying June 1st, returning July 3rd with Singapore Airlines taking Nattu (german shepard, his cost $360) using my Air Canada points (free ). This is my third free trip to India using AC points, the last time was business class, LA-Toronto-Delhi-return. That was awesome.

Cheers
