Bump in my own self-interest
Still looking for Bangkok-Kolkata-Bangkok cheap fares, as per my earlier post (#124).
Indian Airlines travel agents in the US want $395, so that is an even worse alternative to Bangkok travel agents. I've tried e-mailing a number of other travel agents here, in India, and in Bangkok, and some have replied. Nobody, and I mean nobody, has beat what I can get with Thai Airlines at their web site, which is around $290. Not great. Does anybody know how to buy Biman-Bangladesh tickets? I cannot find any agents listed in the US, their New York airport office doesn't pick up the phone, and the overseas agents listed on their web site (which now seems to be dead) have phones, but not e-mail addresses. |

I haven't searched for you but that doesn't sound bad. We flew this route last year around New Year's. I think our tickets were about the same but with Air India and I think we almost crashed on the way home. Thai Airways, in my experience is a much better airline. I can't help you with your Biman request either, but we flew them once on a different Asia trip. They're the worst. It was a trip but not one I would repeat.

I did the US -> Bangkok -> India route the last 2 years. I possibly saved a little money ($100-300 forget exactly) but really wanted to see Thailand anyway - so it was a big win for me. I live in San Francisco. The first year I went with Korean Air (ok) and last year with Eva (very good). to Bangkok. Once there I used Charlie Connection (recommended if you can fit into their office) to get a ticket to India. The first year I got a roudtrip to Delhi. Last year I got a 1way to Delhi and a 1way back to Bangkok from Kolkata. This worked out for me very well and I recommend this if you want to see Thailand (even just Bangkok is worth it imho). If you do not I really do not think it is worth is unless you cannot find any good price at all direct to India. As an example using travelocity and Charlie Connection (US$, no tax below): sfo-bkk-sfo $625 (Eva) bkk-del-bkk $340 (?) =$965 sfo-del-sfo $975 (Air India) --- And Tomi, Bangkok to Kolkata and back is listed for 8500 Baht (~207$us) |

Never too late
Thanks Alex.
As I didn't have time constraints, I opted for waiting till I was in Bangkok to buy the tickets. Your info is great news, so I will look for the lowest fare when I get there on Jan 5. |

That's a good deal. I posted this question 3 months ago and got no responses. I flew LA to Chennai for $1640 total, but, I think Chennai is more expensive to go to than New Delhi.

Lufthansa RT, March - Chicago-Frankfurt-Chennai -- $1100 + app. $300 taxes. about the same as what I paid an airline consolidator in September.

travel to india
I still dont understand, as u can book last min 14 day all in hol for £199 from UK, they are always av, i am sure once u book the price goes up a bit, but still not as high as u r all quoting.! (to Goa) straight thru flight
Is this because u all needed to prebook in advance!! We paid £300 for 14 days with thomsons, but nxt time will book the 199 one and arr our own acc as we want to stay in same hotel as before. would it not be cheaper if u are not restricted to certain dates to just book one of these and not use the accomadation, just the flights!! or can u not do these because u want to stay for longer?? how easy or cheap is it to book a flight from India to the UK, one way?? does anyone know?? |

The best link that I could find to establish the cheapest domestic flights (with schedules and fares) could be found on: http://www.flightorder.com/retail/

London - Delhi - Hong Kong
Hi there,
I'm looking for the cheapest way to get to Delhi from London and then on to Hong Kong. We're hoping to leave in the first week of May 07 and we'd like to spend +/- 12 days in the Golden Triangle before moving on to Hong Kong. Can anyone offer any advice on this please? Many thanks! Jellytotpie xx |
