duty free IGI delhi, any Chocolates?

Hi, I'm travelling from Canada to India this weekend (march 22). I want to know if the duty-free shops in IGI delhi airport carries chocolates (at decent prices).
Thanks.

I recall that the duty free does have chocolates but they're cheaper to buy at home-and the same makes.
I'd recommend importing your own from Wal-Mart or similar.

I had Cadbury "Bourneville" in Delhi around Christmas last year; it was pricey, but tasted like there actually was some chocolate in it!

Are you stopping on the way? Maybe in Brussels with Jet Airways?
They have some excellent chocolate there.

Some, but not a lot, even that's only got 39% cocoa solids, which is only just over the 35% legal minimum for a product calling itself dark chocolate in the UK, and I'd say that is the absolute bare minimum for dark chocolate.

I'd say the chances of Stephan being able to find any "good" dark chocolate (i.e. cocoa solids of at least 70%) in Delhi are very low indeed.

Then again Stephan is American and according to my American friends the most popular "chocolate" there is Hershey's milk chocolate. I realise I'm insulting an institution, but I once tried some which they had brought over, and I was really shocked at how utterly "unchocolatey" it was. I checked and found that it has only around 10% cocoa solids! That is half the amount that a product needs if it was to be legally described as chocolate in the UK, so compared to that anything is going to seem pretty good.

Bournville, by the way, is the name of the village, then four miles out of Birmingham, which George Cadbury the Quaker created in the 1870s to provide pleasant and healthy housing and living space for the workers at his new factory there. There is still a lot of green space there, despite it being overtaken by Birmingham. There is also "Cadbury World" at Bournville, which tells the fascinating history of the company and chocolate in general, and you can also see chocolate being made and wrapped in the factory. Yum!

Not that I like chocolate or anything...

That bit about Bourneville was interesting, Haylo - do you know the ad where the man gets snatched away by some giant bird along with his chocolate? Is that the same village where it is filmed?
As for dark chocolate here - I have yet to come across it. Not that I am a great chocolate eater, just haven't noticed it. Weather is now getting hot - I wonder what condition it will all be in by the time OP gets back to the Punjab? (One of the reasons why I didn't bring any back from Oz last time in June - although tempted, I knew it would be all soft, melty, horrible from the Delhi temps very rapidly.

I bought some hershey's kisses chocolates, toblerone bars, wrigleys gum etc. I have a 5 hour stop at Frankfurt. Anything good to do there, maybe I will buy some chocolates there. I'm flying on Lufthansa.

Yes I love that ad, and you are right, it was actually filmed in Bournville. Note the gloomy sky, which is a bit of a Brit giveaway! Here is a link to it on YouTube.

It's a shame, because without great quality chocolate you just cannot make things like decent quality chocolate cake, but I agree that it's the temperature that's the limiting factor. It must be getting really hot where you are, Delhi is really hotting up, I think I was very lucky with the timing of my last trip!

Did you know that you can get "tropical" chocolate which is formulated not to melt at high temperatures? The problem is that it does not melt in your mouth either, so you don't get the flavour, it is like chewing slightly chocolate flavoured wax. If you see it don't waste your money, take it from me, it's pretty disgusting stuff!

You will find exceptionally good quality chocolate in Germany, I like the hazelnut and almond chocolates in particular, pralines are very popular. They take their food very seriously there, and it shows!

Suggest you take a ziploc bag to put your chocolate in, just in case it melts...

If it is good chocolate it is Belgian chocolates for me.
Godiva makes excellent dark chocolates and you will surely find them at Frankfurt airport.

Fresh Godiva chocolates only last a few days (that's why they're stored in a chill cabinet)-and are also amazingly expensive- and I too wonder what Delhi temperatures will do to them.
Frankfurt will have a superb selection of chocs.

I recommend Swiss chocolates made by Lindt - they are good quality and come in pretty boxes.

Lindt also makes bars of chocolate flavoured with Earl Grey tea - it's great, though I can't stand Earl Grey tea!

Khan Market. Delis and also some cafes. Can't remember all the chocs they sell there, but there's a range. They do Lindt, I remember that, and some very nice truffles. The Deli I was in was air-conditioned and also had a chiller cabinet full of cakes. Mmmmm. Cakes.

Thanks Puchoo- I don't remember the name so I guess you're right. There- Sugar and Spice in Khan Market.

What's that other chain? Haylo and I went there in Vasant Vihar D Block, there are a couple of other outlets too. Does bread and chocolates and pastries.

EDIT: Sweet Temptations! One in New Friends Colony and another somewhere else (can't remember).
