Customs in Delhi or Hyderabad?
Customs in Delhi or Hyderabad?
Hey all! I'm leaving for Hyderabad on Air India from New York. My flight wasn't cancelled, but between the JFK-Delhi flight and my Delhi-Hyd flight, I only have 40 minutes and its the last flight of the day. Before the strike cancellations it was close to a 2 hour layover.
I am wondering if I do customs in Delhi or Hyderabad. I have OCI (I don't know if that lets me on a shorter line). I've googled trying to find the answer of where I do customs and I can't figure it out.
Thanks in advance for the help

I don't think 40 minutes is enough to change from an international flight to a domestic one at Delhi. The special channel for OCIs and PIOs was abolshed some time ago. Now the only special channels are for diplomats and First-Class passengers.

will get your customs clearance at Hyderabad. The question is your same flight # from delhi to hyderabad. if yes then you are okay with check in luggage, otherwise within that 40 mins could they load it to your next AI flight to hyderabad.
Quote:
Inbound BOM there are two counters for Diplomats/1st/OCI&PIO (as of 02/12) Outbound, DEL one counter for OCI/PIO (as of 03/12) I do not have information later than that.

If they sold you a ticket with 40 minute layover, then my sense is that you do not deplane for Immigrations & Customs. With AI, you never know their special dispensation and violations

one sure answer is you as a passenger can get on the connecting flight, because my experience tell me from midwest US to Delhi direct flight and final destination is hyderabad.
As soon as the plane lands in Delhi, all passengers deplane.
you get your cabin luggage and go to another gate to board your plane, with 40 mins to spare you should make it, you are in the same terminal is a matter of finding the gate.
Do not worry about your check in luggage, if the connecting flight is the same plane (flight #), it is still in the plane and you could get it at the final destination, that is Hyderabad.
my case is I was going elsewhere I still do not worry my check in luggage, it was waiting for me at the final destination.
If no delay or weather is fine, then your flight may arrive an hour or so earlier than schedule, then take you sweet time, you can take a rest around the gate and buy yourself some home made pastries in the airport and relax with coffee.
The only drawback is you have to recheck your hand luggage while on you way to your gate. get your boarding pass stamped, X ray and so on.
Hopefully you can catch the connecting flight in such a short time and no delay. otherwise you will arrive before your luggage
at Hyderabad. the standard procedure is Hyderabad is your final custom check.
As the saying goes 'In india everything will be alright at the end. If it is not alright than it is not the end yet'.
