Hi everyone,
I'm having trouble locating this $950 fare that all of you are quoting using Continental's website, so I assume that I'm doing something wrong. But, I'm looking for a good one-way fare, and am flexible in my departure city (as long as it's in the eastern half of the United States). Anyone find anything that resembles that $950 fare cut in half? The cheapest I've been able to find is $700 including all taxes and fees on Aeroflot....My departure date is flexible, but would ideally be anytime between mid to late July. Thanks so much - I'm apparently not very skilled at this airfare search thing! ![]() -Dave ![]() |

As Merchant noted, the original thread was started 9 months ago. Prices fluctuate.
A 1-way ticket is unlikely to be half a roundtrip. A friend recently purchased two roundtrips (half of which went unused) since this was cheaper than the two single trips, or extended round trip, he'd been looking for. Modern economics y'know.

July is high season and one way fare of ~700 is decent (in April/May it would be a little cheaper). For your time frame fares in the 680-700 range are available not only from Aeroflot but also Air France, Alitalia, and Air India. Check kayak.com or airfare.com for one-way flights from NYC to DEL on several days. Although you have only 15 days to check, it is still efficient to use the flexible dates option. If you see something you like, grab it; it is unlikely to get better. |

Alrighty guys. Thanks so much. I had thought about waiting another month or two, but...I don't want to risk paying hundreds of dollars more. I appreciate all of your help,

So you 'd most likely have an opportunity to react, although you'd still be taking a chance. BTW why one way, aren't you coming back sometime (the rt of 950 is a bargain in comparison)? ![]() |

Akt,
I'm not flying directly back to the United States from India. I'll be flying to Mali before going home, and so it's going to be cheapest for me to buy one way tickets for each segment. A roundtrip ticket is a bargain in comparison though, you're right! -Dave ![]() |

Once I looked for US-India-Kenya-US and, though Kenya is a heavily traveled destination, the best deal was buying US-India and India-Kenya round trips. What are your approx dates and what prices you are getting for one-ways? I suppose India-Mali leg would be the expensive one, although could probably be bought cheaper in India than here. (I would also suggest contacting airtreks.com; they specialize in odd itineraries.) Anyway, you have exciting plans. Good luck. |

Well, I'm pretty much planning on that $700 one-way ticket from NYC to DEL, and I remember getting quotes in the $800-$850 range for the DEL to BKO leg, although I'm most likely going to have to fly into Dakar, Senegal due to the trouble of getting a visa for Mali while in India (visas for Senegal are issued on arrival). BUT, I'm also considering trying the overland route (via Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, and then on through Europe to Spain, Morocco, Mauritania, and finally Mali...), depending on how the situation is in northern Afghanistan in March of 08', which is when I intend to leave India. And then from Mali, I'll be going overland through Mauritania and Morocco, using the ferry to get to Spain, and eventually flying back to the U.S. from the UK in November of 08' - hopefully for a bargain fall sale fare (somewhere around $200 one way I'm thinking).
Any I go about it, I'm probably looking at about $1700 in total - and is mostly dependent on how I get from India to Mali. I've tried airtreks and statravel, and none of their quotes even come close to doing it seperately on my own. Afterall, it is kind of an odd itinerary....and isn't exactly an around the world trip. An exciting trip it will be indeed! I'm just hoping not to get shit-scared and run on home :P -Dave ![]() |

As a matter of interest, what takes you to Mali, DavidP80? That is a long time to be away! There are quite a few logistics involved for such a journey. What fun!

Haha, those logistics you speak of have kept me busy for months, and there's still quite a bit that I am unsure of! I guess that's what free travel is all about though - uncertainty.
But, my main reason for visiting Mali is my good friend Dave, who is currently volunteering with the PeaceCorps. I'll have a free place to stay with him, in his village, for 3 months or so (granting I can tolerate the heat!) to experience rural Malian life and to do all I can to help him in his efforts. I probably wouldn't have chosen to visit Mali had he not been stationed there, but since I've started to do a bit of research, Mali has become much more interesting! And it really is a long time to be away, 16 months....and there's a good chance that I may be ready to come home before it's all said and done. But....I'm going to take those 16 months as slow as I can, not trying to do too much, and hopefully I'll last. Thanks so much for your interest! I'll take off in July - I'm really starting to get excited, and scared ![]() -Dave ![]() |

David, blessings on your endeavor. Anyone who's willing to keep pushing at those walls that crowd us, especially as we get older (I and my husband) has my support. Let us know how it goes. We will go virtually with you!
