Thanks both; to be fair, it was a quite badly-phrased question!
Beyond excited now; going tomorrow.

That's true, so it would be true of perfumes and whatever expensive cosmetics might be available in the duty-free shop as well.

Each passenger over the age of 17 can carry one litre of alcohol into India.

As this thread is specific to hand baggage, I should also point out that unless you purchase the scotch in the duty free shop at Heathrow, you will have to carry it in your checked baggage; the maximum bottle size for carryon luggage is 100ml.

no liquids whatsoever are allowed in carryon, and that is simply not the case
Yep, just did that. Heathrow is great for an apparently ancient airport. Reminds me of The Hyderabad (old) airport 4 years after it was refurbed. Shouldn't be that catty. Any airport with a tie shop is first rate by me.

Has it gone down? It used to be two liters. I usually take an extra bottle for old teachers and that too is allowed and even appreciated by the officer who checked.

Side note, I have heard that if the duty free is not officially delivered to departing passengers or in some cases in a specially sealed bag it may be confiscated.?

But could you afford the ties? I suppose it is the high rentals that ensure that, apart from a handful of things (Boots, W H Smith, and some of the gadgets), only luxury goods at ridiculous prices are sold at Heathrow

I've bookmarked it, as it contains all sorts of other useful information too.
