Booking with Jet Airways from the UK

I have been quoted a price for 2 adults 1 child to Goa from Heathrow via Mumbai for £1322 but I couldnt pay by card from the UK.
Unless I went down to the Brentford Office in London and pay over the desk.
I live in Birmingham so it seems silly travelling to London to buy my tickets.

I have now paid £1579 through WorldWideFlights who get a commission of £257 because I couldnt book in London over the desk.

Can you only pay in INR or Dollars through a debit card with Jet Airways?

Hi. We're just back from Goa. 2 adults 1 x child. Flew Heathrow, Mumbai, Goa using BA and Spicejet - both took credit cards online and cost, all in, £1325.

Too late now to be of use to you, but may help others.

Bye.

Steve, you should have gone to one of the Indian travel agents in Birmingham or London. Their prices are the lowest. If you buy your ticket directly from Jet Airways you will usually not get any discount.

Jet Airways and your IP Address

When you log onto the Jet Airways site from outside India, the web site reads your IP address and directs you to a system that allows you to pay in USD and nothing else.

If you are an Indian Resident you are entitled to the lower INR fares, but you can't get onto the INR payment site because you're not in India!

Shhhhh... don't tell anyone, but if you reset your computer's clock to Indian time this will confuse the Jet Airways server and it will ask you to confirm if you are foreign or Indian! Hey presto - lower INR fares!

P.S. Don't try this unless you are entitled to the lower INR fares or you could be busted

Is there a possibility that NRI's could get away by buying indian fares?

It's Residency - Not Nationality

Fares applicable to resident Indians are quoted in Indian Rupees (INR).

The INR fares are also applicable to foreign nationals (and their dependents) holding resident permit in India. Fares applicable to foreign nationals and non-resident Indians are quoted in US Dollars (USD).

Unless otherwise specified, tickets issued against INR fares are valid for travel for a year from the date of issue, while tickets issued against USD fares are valid for travel for a year from date of commencement of journey.

INR Fare Club Premiere passengers get 30 Kgs baggage allowance, whereas foreigners paying the USD fare get 40 Kgs.

In Economy INR Fare passengers get 20 Kgs baggage allowance and foreigners paying the USD fare get 30 Kgs.

Oh! I hope to have a resident thingy next time I return to India: would I be able to get INR fares through a London agent?

Resetting my computer clock probably won't be an option, as it won't be my computer. Might be possible though.....

Funny I should read this thread just minutes after booking with Jet

Steve - as the others said you should be able to do these directly via any online booking agent. I used www.southalltravel.com who has consistently come up with the cheapest fares for me for travelling to India. If you want to save a wee bit more then book with them by phone and the agents always beat the web prices for their own site.

Also nice tip about the clock setting I generally have to log in via a Indian proxy server to get the IP check overridden.

Ohh and I am an NRI and consider it my right to get standrad prices - and think everyone should too. Glad things are changing.

Which is what I thought was the case - however the ticket I just booked with Jet the allowance is 20+5kgs outbound from LHR but 30+5kgs inbound from Mumbai. Might not be a regular allowance so check with the airline.

Dont need to reset - jsut change the timezone and revert back when finished booking. Quite easy to do for non-tech peeps too.

Sorry... I was giving allowances for internal flights - as you point out, international flights have different allowances.

Interestingly, I had tried to book a roundtrip from London to Mumbai on Alitalia but Whitehall Travel (which had the best price) wouldn't accept my Visa card because it is from a Canadian bank. They wanted British money or a British bankcard.
I ended up booking through Gulf Air with Orbitz.

Hope this isn't too far off topic.
