Booking return flight in India?

Hi Folks,

Just wondering how feasible it is to book a flight online, whilst in India? I would quite like to just book my flight out, then assess my cash flow at certain points, and then book a flight home some 3 weeks in advance when it becomes necessary.

Open ended returns mights be an option, but there is also a small chance my finances may allow me to go to Vietnam/Thailand afterwards.

I'll probably be taking the rather exciting Edinburgh-London-Istanbul-UAE-Mumbai route, because it only works out at 180 quid, one way. And I'm that sad, I even get a little excited by new foreign airports.

So open ended tickets are probably out, for cost reasons. But would I be able to book a similarly priced return leg of the flight online from India, maybe 2/3 weeks in advance?

Cheers,

I think it shouldn't be a problem. But I would also check with a travel agent to see if they can get you a better price.

When I went to India last summer, I just bought a one-way from Toronto to Delhi because I wasn't sure of my exact itinerary. When I decided to come home, I checked the prices online and found what I thought was a good price, but then went to a travel agent and they were able to get me a better price, so I went with that. I only booked one day in advance.I didn't have that much flexibility as to return date as I needed to be back in Canada, but if I had more flexibility (able to return later) then I would have gotten an even better price.

Ah, yes, the "three-days-no-sleep" route.

You can fly from Edinburgh to Mumbai for about £430 return with BA at the moment, and to Delhi for £403 with KLM. That "low-cost" UAE route does not warrant the excitement it generates.

Hi all,

Thanks to you all for your replies. Mickey, cheers for the BA tip...I had never imagined they would be that cheap. Still gonna work out at a few more pennies than the 3 days no sleep route, but It could be worth the extra, eh?

And to the rest, thanks for confirming I can easily book a flight in India.

Namaste, to you all.

PS,

Mickey, do you know how much it would cost to change the date of a BA flight, on the return leg? Thanks again.

Cheers,

Depends on the ticket, on some BA tickets you can't change them, but on others they normally charge £50 + the difference in fare. (On full price economy tickets they only charge the difference)

(Check before you book ... It is clear when you are booking on their website what the ticket conditions are for the flights you are buying .. can be different on the outward and return flights as well)
