Hi
I had a similar issue last year. There are retiring rooms or dorms at the airport - you need to see the airport manager to get access. When I was there, there was a big conference in town and no beds available. I don't think you can reserve in advance. I ended up getting a taxi to nearby-ish Mars Hotel and paying 1000 rupes for a couple of hours of sleep. A bit of a rip off but after an 11 hour flight I needed to get horizontal.
I have however used the same facility at Kolkata airport which was fine. Cool clean comfortable and safe. 250 for a dorm bed.
Airport managers office in Chennai - turn left when you leave the international arrivals building and its about 20 yards on your left.

I have flown many times with Air Asia. Their service is good.
