BA: New Baggage Allowance Policy

British Airways, over the course of the next few months, is entirely changing its baggage allowance policy.

Please see here for details. This is from BA's UK site, those in other countries should check if it applies to them before relying on it. Please note that these changes are not effective right now: see the site for the dates. Changes start to be implemented 5 July.

It looks like (for Economy (World Traveller) class)... Gone is the 6 kilos hand baggage limit (just you must be able to put in the locker unaided and size limits still apply...). Added is a laptop or briefcase, as long as it fits under the seat in front. Unchanged is the 23Kilo check-in limit, but now it is limited to one bag each and no bag may exceed 23 K. World traveller Plus gets an extra 23Kilo checked-in bag (used to be an extra carry-on 6K).

This will be a godsend to people like my mum and dad. They can stuff 15kilos in a normal sized hand bag.

And me! You should see what I get into the "small camera bag" ---all the elctrical adapters and small gadgets that are small but heavy.

I think I have got away with hand bagage nearer to 20k than 6! (what a relief that a guy just in front of me in the queue was stopped for checking .

Those overhead lockers are going to be groaning!

If carrying lots of stuff is a priority ---has often been for me--- it makes World Traveller Plus pretty good value. Get the same baggage allowance as first class, and an extra seven inches of leg space!
