Not as bad as the Aeroflot pilot who let his kids take turns flying an Airbus. Did not end well.

In Indian scape goat chasing culture, no wonder independent witness, flight engineer who was on board, is considered culprit
or some passengers sitting in front row.

I am sure truth would never come out, both parties will mend the fences. Issue being settled amicably, evident from fact they flew further, as a team from lucknow to Delhi.

Air India will be glad to know that they are not alone

Both pilots 'slept' for an HOUR as packed airliner flew on for 600 miles

Quote:
An airliner with 144 passengers onboard flew 600 miles as its pilots slept at the controls for more than an hour, it was claimed yesterday

The pilot and co-pilot are believed to have nodded off as the plane flew on autopilot at 37,000ft, causing it to overshoot its destination by 150 miles.

In the meantime, F-16 fighter jets were readied to escort or even shoot down the jet over fears it had been hijacked.
Quote:
The pilots insisted they had been engaged in a 'heated' argument about airline policy.

By the time their 'discussion' had ended - or they had woken up - the plane was 150 miles off course and flying over the neighbouring state of Wisconsin.

Instead of being above Minneapolis, population 380,000, it was instead over the town of Eau Claire, population 61,000.
Quote:
It would not be the first time a flight crew have dozed off in flight.

Last year two pilots from Go! Airlines on a flight from Honolulu to Hilo in Hawaii fell asleep for at least 18 minutes while in the air.

The plane flew past the airport and out to sea before air traffic controllers reached the pilots, who turned the plane around.

Also it turns out this plane had a 'old'cockpit voice recorder, that records only 30 minutes at a time.. leaving out some of the precious 'discussions' while the plane was not in radio contact

It seems like they finally snapped back when the flight attendants(FA) spoke on the PA system. I wonder why the FA's did not bang on the cockpit doors!! Of course 150 miles is not a long time, when you are travelling at 8 miles per minute..

Nwa

Just yesterday a NWA flight from the west coast LA I think to Minneapolis over shot the landing, pilots wouldn't communicate with traffic controllers. Air Force was on guard and finally after 150 miles past the airport some 45 minutes they got contact and through maneuvers brought them back safely determining it wasn't a high jack situation.

Pilots claim they were in a heated discussion. Some suspect they were asleep. Let's see.
